This was dangerous. The most reckless thing she had ever done in her life.

Ryujin slammed her foot down.

The accelerator hit the metal. The Evo roared— alive, furiously as the needle on the speedometer climbed higher than it ever had before. The engine's scream vibrated through her bones.

For the first time, she felt the full, unrestrained power of her beloved car.

It felt like rage.

It felt like love.

"RYUJIN! WHERE THE FUCK ARE WE GOING?!" Yuna shouted over the deafening growl of the engine. Her hand white-knuckled around the grab handle to keep herself from being flung across the seat.

"We're going to get them," Ryujin yelled back, voice distinct enough to cut steel. She yanked the wheel and the back end of the Evo whipped out as she drifted through a sharp bend. Tires screamed with smoke. "And then I'm going to kill every single one of them."

"What if he was bullshitting us?!" The young soldier cried, gritting her teeth as the G-force slammed her sideways into Ryujin's shoulder. "What if he said that shit just to drag you back to their base?!"

She wasn't wrong.

That man.

That monster wearing a bulletproof vest.

The embodiment of every ending Ryujin had ever survived.

He would do anything to get her back in his hands.

But fear had nowhere to live inside her anymore.

Not when her family was at stake.

"Ryujin, LISTEN TO ME!" Yuna shouted, bracing herself as the Evo fishtailed onto another stretch of road. "We can't just take his word for it. We need to go back to the gas station. We need to see if they were actually taken."

The older girl's jaw flexed, her clutch tightening on the wheel until her knuckles went pale.

"We don't fucking have time to double check!" she fired back. "If he's right— if they have Yeji, Lia, and Chaeryeong, every second we aren't moving toward them is a second they'd be suffering."

"And what if he was lying?!" Yuna shot back, leaning forward, practically shoving her voice into Ryujin's ear. "What if we go racing into their territory and the girls are still at the station waiting for us?! Then we've already lost!"

Ryujin's breath stuttered— just once.

A glitch in her rage.

"I-I can't risk that he was telling the truth," Ryujin growled, but even she could hear the crack, the doubt threatening to swallow her whole.

"And I can't risk that he was lying," Yuna snapped, tears lining her lower lashes. "Ryujin, please. If we go the wrong way, we lose either them or ourselves. We need to know."

The words hit her like a collision.

Ryujin slammed down the clutch, jerked the wheel, and the Evo screeched across the empty asphalt, tyres spitting gravel as she forced the car into a brutal U-turn.

Her breath trembled.

Her vision blurred.

"Fine," she choked out. "We go to the gas station. But if they're gone—"

"Then we kill them all," Yuna gritted, "I'm gonna cover my hands in blood. With you".

Ryujin swallowed hard, her foot pressing down again as the Evo surged forward.
