When Ryujin jolted herself awake to the soft hues of dawn painted the sky, and the melodious chirping of birds engulfing the chilly air outside the gas station.
With a sigh, she rubbed her tired eyes, briefly glancing at Yeji still lost in her slumber. She picked herself off the cold tiles and stretched, her spine and joints cracking with each movement after sleeping in an upright position for a period of the night. The first rays of sunlight bathed the room as she contemplated the uncertain path that lay ahead. She knew that they couldn't stay there forever and that they had to keep moving to survive.
So with heavy feet, she slowly made her way over to the sleeping cat-eyed woman with a yawn. She couldn't help but pause and admire Yeji's serene beauty. In the soft morning light, Yeji's features were coated in an ethereal glow, her eyelashes casting delicate shadows against her cheeks and her lips curving ever so slightly.
All of a sudden, the cat-eyed woman stirred awake from her slumber which Ryujin had to turn away and hastily gathered their belongings to hide the fact that she had been lost in her thoughts, or the older woman's irresistible charms. A flustered heat rose up to her cheeks like a red rose blooming in the middle of a bunch of sunflowers, she felt a little embarrassed at the idea of getting caught and a smile made its way onto her face.
"Good morning," She said casually as Yeji rubbed her eyes and sat up, pretending to focus solely on checking their supplies.
"Morning," Yawning, the feline-eyed woman mumbled, still half asleep.
"How are you feeling?"
Yeji weakly lifted herself upright, leaning against the wall. "I'll be okay, I guess. Everything still hurts."
The dark-haired woman's lips formed a thin lip as she halted her actions, looking back at Yeji, "I know it does, we'll take it a day at a time."
Ryujin passed a granola bar over to Yeji, "But for now, eat. You haven't eaten since yesterday."
As Yeji took small bites out of the bar, she listened to Ryujin talk about their plans for the day.
"We'll go on a drive, and see if we can find you some clothing and maybe some weapons," She said calmly, focusing on zipping up her backpack.
She stood up and walked over toward Yeji, crouching in front of her. "I'm not saying to forget everything that happened yesterday, but we are going to need to move to somewhere safer. Safe for you to grieve, okay?"
Ryujin and Yeji left the gas station in the Evo 7, venturing out in search of supplies for Yeji. The morning sun cast an eerie glow on the deserted streets as they drove. As they navigated through the empty town, Ryujin couldn't help but notice how different it felt from her previous life.
The streets, once bustling with life, were now devoid of any human presence, except for the occasional shambling zombie. She wondered how Yeji was processing all of this, having lost everything she held dear in such a short time.
The dark-haired woman tried to strike up a conversation to ease the tension. "Any clothing preferences?"
"I guess I don't really have many options for clothing."
Ryujin nodded in understanding, "We'll see what we can find."
The music from Ryujin's iPod continued to play, providing a backdrop of music to the otherwise awkward silence that had settled between them in the car.
"You know you can change the song, right?" The driver said gently, her voice breaking through the music pumping through the speakers, volume loud enough to fill up the car yet carefully adjusted to not attract the wandering dead inside the city.
