Yuri did not expect that it was almost dark when the talk with George, Valentin, and Gillian came to a conclusion.
Giancarlo isn't exactly fond of her visitors, so it's no wonder that he did not even offer to serve them dinner despite Gillian saying out loud countless times that she is starving. Although she is quite sure that none of those three would dare consume anything from the mafia, despite that Giancarlo's personal chef owns a restaurant with two Michelin stars.
Her boss isn't exactly forbidding her to go out, but he also doesn't want her to disappear from his vision, so to not make things complicated, after hugging them goodbye, she decided to let them find their way outside of the villa. Anyway, Giancarlo did promise that they would not be harmed in any way.
Once she's already alone, that's when she felt the stiffness of her body from being seated for far too long so she stretched her arms and legs, massaging the muscles.
"They're finally gone," it was Giancarlo who reappeared and sat on the space beside her.
"I am sorry about how my friend talked to you last time. She may have a sharp tongue but her heart is soft as a marshmallow," she started as she remembered how Gillian tactlessly talked to him. Giancarlo probably has forgotten about it already but she wouldn't take a risk about him holding a grudge to her friend. After all, Gillian somehow crossed the line despite having a good argument.
"I am used to women like that. I have a sister who talks just like that so it doesn't bother me."
She wanted to retort that it isn't what she saw last time, especially that she could still feel how he pulled her in but she thought that perhaps he really meant it and she just misunderstood his reaction last time.
"George told me that my mom has been worrying about me. I am wondering if you will allow me to go to her."
"The last time I checked, you are not my prisoner anymore so do whatever you want. Just bring Favio with you."
"I don't think that there is a need to do that. Anyway, now that I am thinking about it, I do not know what exactly to tell my mom. She knows that I wanted to kill you, so I don't think that she will be happy once she hears that I am already your employee. What happened at the bar is supposed to be my last job with St. George because she is not a fan of my job, so I guess this is something I have to figure out on my own."
She could already picture the raging face of her mother. She reacted harshly when she found out about the necklace so what's more once she told her that she is working for the mafia.
Her mom does not know Giancarlo on a deeper level like she does but she is cognizant about the involvement of the mafia boss on her father's death.
"It's innate for normal families to have a mother who worries about her offspring. It's a shame though that I have never experienced that."
She raised a brow at that. Not that it came as a surprise to her. For sure, Giancarlo had it tough growing up too, especially since he was molded to become the Costa family's caporegime. Flaws and weaknesses should not be seen in someone like him.
"I guess people cannot have it all, then."
Giancarlo just nodded in agreement and then he looked at her sincerely.
"What if I accompany you when you talk to her? I mean, you need to make her believe that you are safe so that she will allow you to continue doing this. If we clear the misunderstanding to her then she already has nothing to worry about."
Her eyes widened in disbelief. "Well, that isn't really a bad idea but I cannot guarantee that it will work."
"It's better that we try than do nothing, don't you agree?"
