It seemed that the whole state of New York was in a state of chaos, with protests erupting in various cities. The streets were filled with angry demonstrators demanding justice and change, while law enforcement struggled to maintain order amidst the turmoil.
Aside from the people protesting for the commissioner to step down, there were also calls for an independent investigation into the alleged police misconduct, including what happened to Rose Davis. The atmosphere was tense, with emotions running high as citizens voiced their frustrations and demanded accountability from those in power.
Yuri thought that with how things are going, the White House might need to address the situation and take a stance on the issue. The ongoing protests and demands for justice are not just gaining attention; people all over the country are putting pressure on government officials to respond.
It's just what Giancarlo had predicted when he said that exposing the recording would cause people to question the integrity of those in power.
"I am sorry, Signorina, but Giancarlo specifically mentioned not allowing you out of the apartment until further notice. We could never tell, but Luigi Torricelli might be after you. For certain, he already knows who the woman in the recording is."
Yuri sighed at that and just contented herself by looking out the window. She wanted to go out and buy some groceries, but she understood the importance of following Giancarlo's instructions. If she decided to take off on her own, for sure, it would be his men who would suffer his wrath.
When the recording was released, she received a call from Cassius saying that Giancarlo had sent his men to patrol the whole apartment building. From her distance, she could also see snipers positioned on nearby rooftops.
The door opened, and she thought it was just one of the mafia men, but surprisingly, it was Giancarlo, accompanied by Favio and Valentin, who held bags of groceries.
She walked in their direction to help them carry the bags, but the men politely declined her offer, insisting that they had it under control.
"I figure that you are already starving. I am sorry for not coming sooner as I have pressing matters to attend to. Agatha, could you please pack a bag? I am sorry, but for now it would be safer in the villa than here," Giancarlo said and looked at her mom, who was looking at the bags to check what she could cook for lunch.
Her mom nodded in agreement, which was a bit of a surprise to her, as she was usually resistant to leaving their home. However, this time, she must have trusted Giancarlo.
"I have already talked with Scott Adams, and we had a deal. Cassius would also go with him, as the FBI has pledged that he would be safe in their custody. He would be one of the prime witnesses in the upcoming trials," Giancarlo continued when he saw her face, who seemed to silently ask a lot of questions.
When she was still not responding, he walked up to her and put his arms around her.
"You said that you just wanted to blow things out of proportion a little. This is the complete opposite," she whispered as she leaned her head against his chest.
Her mom saw them in that state when she came back from the room, carrying a bag. She raised an eyebrow, seeing how intimate they were, but decided not to comment. Instead, she handed her another bag.
"I brought some valuables for you too. Before we go, let me just cook for everyone."
She opened the bag and found things that belonged to her father. Among the items was a worn leather wallet filled with faded photographs and old movie tickets from when they went together as a family.
