"Out of all the people in this world, I never expected the mafia boss to be a client of the St. George Army."
Yuri sighed and shook her head at that, laughing at what Valentin had just said.
"It's good to see you, godfather," Yuri said as she welcomed Valentin with open arms for a warm embrace.
"I am happy that you seem to be doing well, Yuri," the man answered. He seemed really pleased to see her; he even kissed the top of her head.
Valentin had always been a loving and caring figure in Yuri's life, especially when she started at St. George Army. She never expected him to be the one who would provide guidance and protection when she needed them most.
Like right now, Giancarlo even had him picked up from Cambodia with his private plane just to make sure that he would be arriving safely.
"I have talked to Favio Russo while on the plane, and he told me that they are interested in the injectable tracker I made. Don't tell me that you are the one who's going to use that?" Valentin asked, raising an eyebrow.
When she did not respond after a few moments, Valentin widened his eyes at the realization that hit him.
"You couldn't be serious, Yuri. What do you need it for?"
Before answering Valentin's question, she let out a deep breath and calmly explained the situation where she needed to go alone because being accompanied by others could ruin the plan.
Valentin listened intently, his initial skepticism giving way to concern. He understood the gravity of the situation and the importance of her mission, as he is one of the few people who knows that Yuri is willing to do everything for her father.
However, he couldn't help but worry about her safety if she is going alone. With a sigh, he finally spoke up: "Yuri, I trust your judgment, but please promise me you'll take every precaution necessary to stay safe. Aside from the tracker, I am also going to provide you with some other weapons you can use to defend yourself if needed."
Yuri nodded, appreciating his concern. "Did you know that I was here?" she asked.
Valentin sniggered at her question. "Of course. I do. I wouldn't be here if it weren't for you, as I do not want anything to do with the mafia. Are the two of you in a romantic relationship already?"
Yuri shuddered at the question and shook her head. "No, this is just a professional partnership, but I trust him with my life," she clarified.
"That's kind of funny; I never thought I'd see the day where you would trust someone with your life, especially the person who you were hell-bent on killing quite some time ago, but I'm glad you have someone like him by your side." Valentin chuckled.
"Well, I guess things tend to change over time," Yuri replied with a small smile. "Life has a way of surprising us, doesn't it?"
"I guess so. But you trust him with your life, but not with your heart?"
Yuri smiled wryly. "Love and trust are two different things, godfather. Besides, we have bigger things to worry about right now than romance."
Valentin was about to respond to that, but the door opened and Giancarlo stepped into the room. "I was told that lunch is already prepared at the restaurant. I suppose we should head there now," Giancarlo said, glancing at Valentin and Yuri.
"Well, we can continue this conversation later", Yuri said, and Valentin nodded in agreement, realizing that the mention of food made him feel hungry as he slept throughout the flight from Phnom Penh to Manila. He wasn't able to get any decent rest during his stay in Cambodia because of the work he had to finish, so he was looking forward to a satisfying meal.
