The airport was bustling with travelers rushing to catch their flights, families saying tearful goodbyes, and the sound of suitcases rolling across the polished floors. The air was filled with a mix of excitement and anticipation, but for Yuri, it was a bittersweet moment. She knew that she was the one who chose to walk away from Giancarlo, but she couldn't help but look back every now and then, hoping that he would come running after her, just like in those movies she used to watch.
"Signorina, it's not too late to change your mind. We can always go back to the mansion if you're having second thoughts," Lorenzo said with a concerned look on his face.
She smiled sadly, appreciating his offer but knowing deep down that she had made the right decision.
They continued walking, but they stopped when they saw a familiar figure in the distance walking in their direction.
Lorenzo's jaw tightened, and he quickly went in front of her, acting like a protective shield. He positioned himself between her and the approaching figure, ready to defend her if necessary.
"What brings you here, Luca Moretti?" Yuri asked when Luca finally stopped in front of them. He has his men standing behind him, who are all looking at Lorenzo in an arrogant manner.
"I just want to check up on you. I heard that you have almost been poisoned by the donna. I thought I should come and see for myself that you are alright."
Yuri narrowed her eyes at him when she realized something. "That bullet that came out of nowhere and killed the maid. That was you, wasn't it?"
Luca did not respond, but the look on his face confirmed her suspicion. It was a mixture of smugness and satisfaction.
"I think it shouldn't be any of your concern, especially that you almost died, and now Giancarlo is rumored to be marrying my sister. I like you, Yuriko Rivera. But unlike Giancarlo, my family would never touch a hair on your head."
"Don't be absurd; Signorina is not a toy that you can just play with when you are bored," Lorenzo chimed in, his voice filled with disdain.
Luca raised an eyebrow, his expression shifting from smugness to annoyance. "Aren't you supposed to be saying that to your boss instead? I am well aware of her worth and would never treat her as a mere plaything."
"So is it true that it was you who sent the marriage proposal to the donna to marry your sister off to Giancarlo?" Yuri asked curiously, but there was an unmistakable edge to her tone.
Luca evidently did not foresee that Yuri would be asking about that. He wanted to lie to protect his own interests, but he knew that Yuri was too perceptive to fall for it.
"I am merely acting as the next head of the family, Yuri. It is my responsibility to ensure the well-being and future of my family, and what better way to secure that than by arranging a marriage with a respectable and wealthy family like Giancarlo's?"
For a fleeting moment, Luca expected a harsh reaction from Yuri; after all, she found out about Giancarlo and her sister, and she had every right to be angry. However, to Luca's surprise, Yuri remained composed, as if she had already mastered the art of detachment.
"If you really cared about your family like you said, you could have done that a long time ago, but coincidentally, you were all over me during the auction night, killed the maid who was tasked to poison me, and now you have followed me here. It's kind of creepy, Signor Moretti. You are doing this for your family, you say? It seemed to me that this is just about twisted obsession with control and power over me."
Luca wanted to retort that she was wrong, but there was just something about Yuri's murderous gaze that made him pause. He had always prided himself on being a man of honor, but in that moment, he couldn't deny the truth in her words.
