Annette couldn't help remarking on seeing the same woman at Carvins'.
She had called herself Roxette Tiphany.She wanted to put an end to her ignorance .She had to find out more about her .Somehow she had a strange feeling as she thought of Roxette.A well made woman in her twenties with a broad forehead ,high cheek bones and dimpled cheeks.She dressed in high profile clothing which made her look exotic.She walked with a dexterity which accompanied women of opulence.
She dressed up and drove to Carvins'.
She sat at a table and waited for the waiter to arrive.
" Madam what a wonderful day and what would you like to have?"he asked.
" I'll have soup?" she answered.
" Of course ma'am," he answered.
" Actually I was waiting for Roxette Tiphany," she added.
" I don't think she'll come at this time," he answered.
" Why,' she asked casually.
" Oh she comes here only in the evenings", he said.
" Do you know her?" She pursued.
'" She is the daughter of Mr.Halifax Tiphany, a business magnate."he said.
" When did you last see her?"
" Oh last week ", he answered,his gaze now straying over incoming customers.
" Was she alone? "
" No there was a handsome gentleman with her."
" Did he look like this? " she asked.
She showed him a photograph of Harry.
" Yes indeed ,do you know him?"
" Yes he is my husband," she replied.
" Where does she live?"
" I'm sorry ma'am I don't know." he whispered.
He went on with his activities and looked her way sometimes.Then he suddenly disappeared.Her suspicion turned out to be true.Harry had been meeting her.She remembered how tense he was when he reached home.
Their conversations were getting brief.He was keeping a secret from her and brooded about its outcome.
Annette was happy and cheerful trying every way to get him to confide but he wouldn't.
