Annette was pacing up and down the corridor waiting to hear the familiar sound of the key in the door.William had been crying as she held him stroking him to sleep. He lay in his crib his eyelashes curled against his cheeks which were flushed and his lips fastened on the pacifier.
Harry's growing impatience and silent
stance had kept her  very anxious. She decided to talk to him and finally persuaded him to confide in her.
Harry arrived late that night .He had been drinking. He swayed as he turned the key in the door .Annette stood and watched him as he crossed the threshold clumsily. She helped him with his coat.
" Look at you you are cold," she said.
" I don't need your help ,go to bed Annette my darling," he said.
" Speak softly the baby is asleep," she said.
" Go to bed," he said in a harsh whisper.
" Have your dinner ," she attempted again.
" No I have already eaten," he replied.
Suddenly his body slumped on the sofa and he was fast asleep.
Annette took off his shoes and tie.She covered him with a sheet and went to bed.
He had never been drunk. It was impossible to decipher his demeanor as he now lay on the sofa snoring.
She had no appetite and went to bed with a heavy heart. She slept restlessly. She had a dream.Anastasia had visited them .She looked at Harry and so did he.An unspoken magic brew between them. She kept taking his name in her sleep.
The next morning she woke up early
And decided to confront Harry before he left for the day.

" What happened last night?" She asked.
" I met an old friend and we drank at the old in," he said avoiding her gaze.
" I dreamt of Anastasia," she said.
" May her soul rest in peace," he answered.
