love

Why is the term "I love you" taken so seriously?

Like, in fanfics, say one person says "I love you" to another person.

That person immediately starts thinking "Do I really love him/her? Oh my god, this is so rushed!"

Um, no.

Why.

I don't understand why this is.

Another example: I'll be texting one of my friends and they'll say something and I'll be like "omg I love you"

And they'll be like "what???"

WHY IS THIS SO STRANGE TO YOU

I SAY I LOVE YOU TO MY MOTHER AND FATHER DAILY

SO WHY IS THIS SO WEIRD TO SAY TO PEOPLE

I'm not going to go all Carly Rae Jepson and be like "I REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY...."

Like no.

I don't even know why I'm making such a big deal about this, it's just something that I'm really irritated by.

I understand if you haven't really been loved that much or something, but if I identify as your friend, I should be able to say "I love you" without having to clarify my intent.

I love you guys.
