Chapter 541: Never

Taehyung tried to move his right hand but to no avail. He couldn't do anything other than hold on, so pulling Chaeyoung up the ladder was definitely out of the question.

"Since when do you listen to what I say? Why didn't you go back to B City when I told you to then? You are just going to come and go as you want," said Taehyung through clenched teeth.

The tsunami was right behind them now.

Jennie let out a curse and tried even harder to pull up the rope ladder.

Taehyung noticed the tsunami too, and realized that none of them would be able to make it if Jimin continued to fly at this speed.

"Speed up, Jimin," yelled Taehyung who relaxed his left hand that was grasping the rope ladder briefly then gripped it hard again.

Jimin hesitated when he heard Taehyung, though he knew that everyone in this helicopter would be sacrificed if he didn't go faster

He was Taehyung—the legend. He should trust his decisions.

Taehyung heard Chaeyoung screaming and lowered his head to look at her. "I realized that I wouldn't have peace of mind unless I had you next to me. If I can't live in peace without you, I might as well die with you."

"Taehyung," Chaeyoung lifted her head to look at Taehyung, "are you really not going to let go?"

"Never," said Taehyung who appeared to be in a better mood now. The rope ladder began to sway more violently as the helicopter sped up, causing Taehyung's right hand to strain even more. "Are you not happy that I am willing to die with you?"

'Happy my foot!' Chaeyoung pursed her lips and thought. She knew that Taehyung would have gotten into the helicopter if it weren't for her.

She knew Taehyung well enough to know how stubborn he was and how he really might not let her go despite his struggle to hold onto the rope ladder, so she reached out and tried to make Taehyung let go.

To her surprise, before her hand could even touch Taehyung's, Taehyung let go of the rope ladder.

The tsunami finally caught up. The helicopter had sped up and ascended to a height that was right on top of the tsunami waves, and both Taehyung and Chaeyoung disappeared beneath the ferocious waves.

"Chaeyoung!" Jungkook screamed. He would have jumped off the helicopter if it weren't for Jennie pulling him back.

"Chaeyoung, Taehyung," Wonhae ran across the helicopter to the door but Jennie had closed the door to avoid losing any more of them.

She had seen Taehyung let go of the ladder voluntarily, and all Jennie wanted to do now was curse. Was this really a good time to die for love?

"Chaeyoung, Taehyung..." Wonhae was leaning against the helicopter door and staring at the roaring sea that the tsunami has raced across. But there was no one.

"No, no, no..." Not being able to accept what just happened, Wonhae shouted hysterically. Jungkook reached out to catch her when she almost fainted.

Jimin flew the helicopter out from the danger zone while recalling what Taehyung said to him earlier.

[If the tsunami comes, leave no matter who doesn't make it into the helicopter.]

Jimin clenched his fists. Kim Tianmu was badly injured and needed to be treated immediately, and there were also others in the helicopter. He had to decide what was best for everyone.

Taehyung must have been prepared to not get into the helicopter when he told him those words even after knowing that he would be the last to climb the rope ladder.
