“Where is your bracelet?” Emma asked, looking at Y/N's empty wrist. Emma held Y/N's wrist and asked again, “Where is your bracelet, Y/N?”
Y/N didn't speak and looked down at her feet. Olive nudged Y/N's head when she sensed Emma’s anger growing; she brought her tail in front of Y/N and pulled the little girl closer, creating some distance between her and Emma.
“Where is it?” Emma enunciated each word slowly. “Look up at me and answer me. I am asking you something.”
“It’s broken,” Y/N answered, her voice barely audible.
“What do you mean?” Emma asked, growing more furious by the moment.
“I showed Taehyung and was about to…”
“You broke it,” Emma interrupted.
“I didn’t mean to. It just fell off.”
“And why didn’t you tell me about this before?” Emma screamed at her.
“Why did you want to hide it from me? I just wanted to help. I didn’t do anything wrong,” Y/N said, not understanding why her mother was acting this way. Whenever she asked her mother something, she wouldn’t get an answer, but whenever she did something, her mother would yell at her. “You didn’t speak to me about this, Y/N.”
“I just wanted to tell you, but I knew you would shout at me. Why are you getting so angry? I didn’t do anything wrong. I always did what you told me to do. And when I ask something, you don’t want to answer. It’s your fault that I can’t see Bin. It’s all your fault!”
A loud slap was heard. Olive pulled Y/N between her legs, wrapping her tail protectively around her. Tears streamed down Y/N's face, and her hand was on her cheek. Olive nudged Emma’s head to bring her back from her spiral of negative thoughts. Emma's horrified expression wasn’t helping the situation. Olive understood and nudged her head again.
“You need to be strong, Emma. You can’t go back. There is nothing you can do now. Hold yourself and stop acting this way,” Olive told her, giving her the strength to separate her emotions and offer support.
Emma looked down at her hands. She didn’t understand how she could hit Y/N. “Y/N,” she called, tears streaming down her face. Namjoon and Ella entered, having heard the yelling. Namjoon had broken something, and Ella was trying to help him fix it before his brother could see it. “Y/N, baby, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to,” Emma said. Ella slowly rubbed her back as Emma cried harder. “Ella, I didn’t mean to hit her…”
“Shh, it’s okay,” Ella soothed.
Namjoon picked Y/N up, and she went to him without a word. He took her outside, and Y/N clung to him, her head pressed into the crook of his neck as she sniffled gently. Namjoon rubbed her back, feeling her tears.
“I don’t want to go to your room,” she murmured, and he nodded without saying anything.
They went to the garden, and Namjoon sat down with her in his lap. Her head was pressed against his neck, and her legs were wrapped around his waist. He continued to rub her back. When she calmed down, Namjoon spoke.
“If you want to talk about this, I’m here,” he suggested without pressure.
“No,” she said, burying her face deeper into him. He understood it wasn’t his place to say anything, so he stayed quiet.
“What are you two doing?” Hobi asked, coming towards them. He felt a little bleak but didn’t know why. “Y/N, what happened? Are you crying?” he asked, sitting beside them. Hearing his concerned voice, Y/N lifted her head from Namjoon’s neck and looked at Hobi. She could feel his worry.
“What happened?” he asked, looking at her red eyes, red nose, and dried tears on her cheeks. She pulled herself up from Namjoon and went to Hobi, who pulled her to him effortlessly.
“What happened, baby? You’re making me worried,” she pressed her head to his neck, inhaling his scent, which calmed and stabilized her, preventing her from crying again. She knew they were her safe place.
“I’m fine, don’t worry,” she said. Hobi looked at Namjoon, who nodded, a silent understanding passing between them.
The dinner table was fully decorated with various kinds of food, as always. Everyone was there, including Louis. Minho, Harry, and Louis were discussing every possibility that the dragons could die, but all evidence screamed no. There were no gifted people in their kingdom capable of that. They had searched all day but found no answers.
They sat in their usual seats. Maids standing in the corners came forward and began to serve the food. When they finished, they bowed and returned to their places.
The table was too quiet. The only sounds were forks slicing meat. Ella was helping Taehyung slice his food. Despite his protests that he was fine and could eat on his own, Ella didn’t listen.
He looked fine, as if nothing had happened. Harry and Minho noticed how fast he had healed. When Harry spoke to him, Taehyung said he was just a little tired. It didn’t make any sense to Harry, so he stopped trying to make sense of it.
“So all of you are going to pretend nothing happened?” Kasumi spoke harshly. Y/N looked up from her food and glanced at Kasumi, her eyes wide. Kasumi’s hair was in a bun, and her red dress and lips screamed authority. There was nothing gentle about this woman. Y/N looked down when she saw Kasumi glaring at her, unable to hold her gaze as it felt like daggers were jabbing into her soul. Everyone looked at Kasumi.
Emma saw everything and placed a hand on Y/N’s shoulder, squeezing it gently. Y/N looked up at her mother. “I am sorry,” Y/N told her. “I am sorry I couldn’t protect both of you.”
“There is nothing to talk about,” Minho answered. Kasumi saw the exchange between mother and daughter, and her blood boiled.
“Are you blind? Can’t you see what they are doing?” Kasumi looked at her husband. When he didn’t respond, she continued, “They are monsters. She is a witch, Minho. She is a traitor’s daughter. She is here to destroy all of us,” Kasumi yelled at Ella, pointing a finger at her. Ella shifted closer to Harry.
“Mother, stop,” Harry said, wrapping an arm around Ella’s shoulder.
“You are blind, son. She is going to destroy us like her father did. She turned your son into a monster, and she will destroy us.”
“Get out. If you can’t get over what happened long ago, and she had nothing to do with it, you are not welcome. Go back to your room now,” Minho shouted, his eyes shining bright red. Kasumi obeyed the order. She didn’t want to, but her body listened to what her bonded said. She could feel his dragon getting angrier the longer she resisted, so she went back to her room.
“It’s not your fault, Ella. I am so sorry that it happened this way,” Minho said to Ella.
“It’s not your fault, Father. You don’t have to apologize,” Ella said, but every word from Kasumi had cut her deeply.
At midnight, everyone heard three strong growls. Everyone in the castle came out onto the balconies. People emerged from their houses, hearing sounds they never thought they would hear in their lifetimes. The ground beneath them started to shake. They had heard stories and sometimes their dragons said something about it, but no one expected to hear the ‘Elder Dragons’ awaken: Amethyst, Astrella, and Tartarus. Other dragons flew in the sky, growling to celebrate their Elder awakening, and every dragon rider’s eyes started shining. The Elders knew their presence.
“The choosing ceremony will begin.”
