"Ah, the ranking system," Tori began, leaning back slightly in her chair. "It's simple in theory, but it's the backbone of life here at Draconyas Academy. Everyone wants to climb the ranks-it's the ultimate way to prove your worth, especially if you're on the Mystic Pathway."
She held up her hand, ticking off the ranks with her fingers. "First, you start at spark what we are now . It's exactly what it sounds like-the basics. You focus on understanding magical energy, proper control, and learning basic spellcasting. It lays the groundwork for everything you'll do in the future."
"Once you've got a solid grip on the basics, you move up to Flare. That's the apprentice level. Here, it's all about enhancing your control and learning more complex spells. This is where things start to get interesting-and challenging."
"Next is Ember, the adept rank," Tori said, her tone more serious. "This is where specialization begins. You'll choose your magical focus and start mastering it. Whether it's fire, water, lightning, or another element, this is where you carve out your identity as a mage."
She leaned forward, her eyes sparkling. "After that, there's Inferno. This rank is for the most advanced mages, just shy of mastery. Here, you're expected to tackle dangerous missions, develop groundbreaking techniques, and demonstrate extraordinary magical and strategic skill."
"Then comes Blaze. This is the expert rank and one of the most prestigious. Only the elite make it here. At this level, you'll refine your techniques, enhance your connection with your dragon, and begin creating unique magical abilities. This is where you stop just learning magic and start truly owning it."
Finally, Tori's voice softened in awe. "At the very top, there's Eclipse. This rank is reserved for masters-those who've shown exceptional skill, creativity, and innovation in magic. Few ever make it this far, but those who do become legends."
She smirked, her confidence infectious. "Each rank isn't just about power, though. You have to prove yourself through trials, missions, and your ability to connect with your magic. It's a long, grueling path-but trust me, it's worth it."
"How do you know all this stuff?" Y/N asked, trailing behind Tori with a curious tilt to her voice. "No one's supposed to talk about this school to anyone outside. It's a huge secret. So, how do you know all of this?"
Tori glanced back, her cheeks flushing slightly. "I... um... I came here three days ago," she said softly, tucking a stray strand of hair behind her ear. "I've been spending most of my time reading. The library here is incredible, and I might've gotten... a little carried away."
Y/N blinked in surprise. "Three days? And you already sound like you've been here for years?"
Tori shrugged shyly, her gaze dropping to the pathway as they walked. "I like reading. It helps me feel... less out of place. Like I'm figuring things out, you know?"
"That's... impressive," Y/N admitted, nodding. "I mean, I can't even manage to walk in a straight line here without tripping over something."
Almost as if on cue, Y/N's foot caught on a slightly raised patch of stone. She stumbled forward with a startled yelp, flailing before catching herself. Tori reached out instinctively, steadying her with a light touch on her arm.
"Careful," Tori murmured, a small, nervous laugh slipping out.
"Yeah, careful isn't really my strong suit," Y/N said, grinning sheepishly as she brushed herself off.
When they reached the massive swirling leaf platform, Tori stepped onto it with cautious grace. She turned back, offering her hand to Y/N. "Here, um, hold on if it helps," she said gently.
