Ten years later ~
Iman Denise Harriott
And that was the last time that I had saw Alistair again until now at Mariah's and Hugo's baby shower. I mean we spoke briefly at their wedding and we work in similar industries, but properly interacting wise...ten years it has been.
I can remember that night so well and that's because I stupidly went to go and kiss him. It wasn't even like a "I miss you kiss", it was a "in the moment" type of kiss.
I was going to run away after we broke away out of fear, but I literally had finally accepted his apology and I'm trying to be mature. I had to just stand ten toes on the decision I made and firm it.
Anyways, moving on from those thoughts, I didn't know Hugo was still close to Alistair like that. Like I knew they were still in contact, but I didn't know they were bros to a point that Alistair came over to help set up the baby shower.

"I really like that she chose this theme..." I spoke proudly to Dimitri, at the freshly baked animal cut biscuits from the oven
"I like them too, should we decorate them?" He questioned
We both made a look to each other...
"Nah!" We both said in unison, knowing if we tried, we'd fuck it up
"It would've looked like a horror movie had happened, if we even tried"
"No you're right..." Dimitri agreed "Are you excited to be the new god parents for Mariah and Hugo's child?" He asked, changing the subject of conversation
"I think they chose well-" I sassed "-but in all honesty, I'm really excited to see their bundle of joy and be apart of their life as much as they are as parents. What about you?" I added
"I'd say I'm mixed with nervousness and excitement"
"Nervousness? How comes?" I questioned
"I'm planning on asking Jasmine to Marry me and we've also been thinking of starting a family so I want to make sure I can be the best god parent to their child, so I can be the best father and husband ever"
I cocked my head and stopped everything that I was doing, hearing the confession that came out of Dimitri's mouth.
"Marry?...Family?...have you got the ring for her as yet? Can I see the ring?" I sprouted out with questions from my mouth
"Yes, yes, not as yet and when I get Jasmine her perfect ring, then you can" Dimitri answered all my questions at once
"OMG I'm so excited and happy for you and thank god because I thought you were moving too slow"
"Slow?...really Iman" Dimitri rolled his eyes at me
"I mean I saw you guys happy, you never complained to me about her and vice versa...you ought to settle down with her, plus you're reaching that age..." I teased at the end
"Iman we are one year apart, if I'm not mistaken, you are also reaching 'that age' too" Dimitri empathised
"I actually just came out of a relationship with my ex fiancé, so that doesn't count" I pointed out
"Whatever you say Iman"
"Iman?" I heard a familiar voice call out my name and it was no other than Alistair
He had a big barrel shaped ice bucket in his hand, and I'm guessing he was heading to the garden through the kitchen to place it there.
"Yes" I responded
"Can you do me a favour?"
"And what would that be?" I questioned
"Can you grab three to four bags of ice cubes from the freezer and carry them out for me to fill them up in the barrels?"
Those ice bags are heavy...he could've asked Dimitri or another man in the house. This is deffo just an excuse to talk to me but I'm not mad at it, it's been a while.
"Yeah that's fine" I said
"Thank you"
I went to get the ice cubes out of Mariah's freezer, as Dimitri helped placing them on the free space in the counter.
"Oh trust and believe when I'm finished with this, I will pick up this conversation with you again" I told Dimitri before going off
I quickly caught up with Alistair, into the garden, as I placed the bags of ice on a nearby table. I tore one of the bags and started pouring the ice in the bucket, as Alistair followed pursuit doing the same thing. While we were doing so, I could feel his eyes on me, and every time I'd get the chance to look up to see what was it, his eyes would flicker away.
"I can feel your eyes on me" I started
"And what if they are?..." He said cockily
I have never looked up so quickly at the confidence that had spewed out of someone's mouth, but should I be shocked?...no. This is Alistair Ryle here. It just goes to show that even with age, some things just don't go away.
"You better be joking with me?" I finished pouring the last bag of ice into the barrel"
"Don't worry, I am, I just wanted to see if I still got it" he chuckled
"You do...but not just with me though" I made clear
"That's all I needed to hear, but how have you been doing, it's been a while?"
"To be honest, I've been doing well. For a person that just broke their engagement of not too long ago, you'd think they'd be all over the place, but I'm not doing too bad- thank god" I stated
"Right I heard about that...the pair of you were together for a long time, but I'm glad to see that you're doing okay"
"Yea me too..." I mumbled "but how have you and Alana been?"
"Same old really, I'm doing great myself and Alana, she's doing well- have you gotten to speak to her as yet?" Alistair questioned
"No- I haven't had the time to meet her- when are you going to introduce your ex to your wife?" I smiled in his face like a fool
Trust me I'm over Alistair and what we had, I just wanted to throw that out there, since Alistair wants to come out with jokes.
I still won't forget when this idiot invited me to his wedding, I declined it so quick.
Like why did he feel confident to do such a thing and why would you want your ex at your wedding, especially with how intimate our last conversation was the last time we properly sat down and spoke.
"Ex to your wife...I like how you still have that humour with you"
"It never went away, I'm just naturally a funny person"
"Really, you kind of bored me at times..." Alistair shoved his hands in his pockets, knowing damn well he's lying
"I'm probably the funniest person you've ever met in your life" I hit back
"That may be true" Alistair rubbed his beard
"You know it's true"
