April 17: Got a prompt but didn't like it so I did something else
....From the first day the new kid walked into class and took her seat, I knew there was something strange about her.
I was very sure of myself cause she sat beside me that day and the little conversation we had was one of the weirdest I had ever had.
After introducing herself to the class in the most timid manner I had ever seen someone speak in, she faced her notebook and started to doodle in it.
You wouldn't see it from afar but if you studied her closely you'd notice she was jerking a bit. Like someone with tourette syndrome.
“Are you okay?” I asked her and she turned to face me with a stony glare.
“Why do you ask?” she muttered.
“Um, you were…you just seemed not fine.”
“Oh, I'm alright,” she said with a smile, her face instantly morphing into a pleasant expression. Then she focused her attention back to her doodling.
I tried to ignore the strange feeling I had and focused on the lesson.
It was the last class of the day so immediately the bell rang, most of the students began to rush home. The classroom was rowdy for a while but I could make out the girl in the crowd.
She seemed so keen on leaving but she wasn't getting out of my sight. I was really curious about her and the strange way she was behaving. She kept to herself most of the time and rarely spoke.
I knew it wasn't my business but I was curious and I just wanted to see if there was really something strange about her or I was just being crazy again.
I ended up following her home. I did feel like a stalker and I felt guilty about it but I couldn't help it.
Thirty minutes later, we were still walking and I began to think about turning back around.
Well that was until we were in an alley. A really lonely one. I was spooked because it wasn't a normal thing to be there at such a late time.
I managed to stay hidden for the whole journey and when she stopped abruptly, I hid behind a huge trash can.
She started to jerk and shiver violently until her body split into nine different humanoid shapes. The humanoid shapes suddenly became real humans. And they all looked like her.
I watched in horror and fascination from behind the trash can as they all began to speak to each other. They were identical so I couldn't tell which one was the actual one but soon I realized there was no actual one. They were all the same.
“I thought I was the one person taking over? Why are you all trying to be in charge?” one said in a really scary voice.
“I get tired of y'all trying to be mean. People will hate us. I want to be loved,” another said in an obnoxious voice and batted her lashes.
“My head hurts, I just want to go home and take a nap,” another said in a groggy voice and yawned.
“We've barely done anything today dear,” another said in a really sweet voice. “but if you're tired you should take a rest.”
“ugh, every time 'take a rest'. This is why everyone hates us and why we would never achieve anything good in our lives.”
One of them sniffled. “Don't remind me. I always try my best to forget it. I'm just so sad. My life is sad.” Then she started to bawl her eyes out.
“Ugh, can y'all stop being so silly and ridiculous?! This is not the attitude for someone who's super talented and is going to be a celebrity one day.”
“Wait we're celebrities?” one said. “Wow, so we're rich and popular?”
Another one facepalmed himself and sighed. “No, dummy, we're not celebrities. She just believes for some reason that one day we'll be a fashion icon and everyone will worship and adore us. I think we need to focus more on our books. We should aim to be a doctor one day and that's still as good.”
“Okay that's it!! Everybody shut up! Ugh you're all giving me a migraine? Can't you just shut up and let me choose the type of person I want to be?”
“You found the crystal,” one said while inspecting her nails in the manner a diva does. “You can't stop us from expressing ourselves until you give it omeone else.”
“And I've been trying but if I do it in the open people will see me and I'm busted. No one is supposed to know!”
“So what do we do now?”
“Just come together and lemme suffer with you for that rest of my life,” she huffed and raised the crystal up in the air. “Get together.”
I was crawling back now after taking in the absurd sight before me and convincing myself that it was probably not real. Suddenly, one of them saw me.
“Who's there?”
I stood up to run but apparently one of them was faster than I was and caught me before I could take more than five steps.
They all huddled around me, grabbed my arms and legs snd dragged me to the girl.
“Hey, you're that guy that sat next to me in class today.”
I nodded. “Yeah, and I knew there was something weird about you though I wasn't sure what. But now I am and can I just leave?”
They all exchanged glances and gave one another smirks.
Before I knew what was happening, the girl touched the weird crystal she held moments before to my forehead and I felt a sharp pain in my skull.
“Ahh!” I screamed and suddenly began to jerk.
“What did you do to me?!” I yelled like a mad person.
My insides felt like they were trying to implode and explode at the same time.
“Please, just stop it. Take your crystal and your weirdness and leave me,” I sobbed and struggled to get up.
All the different parts of the girl came together and morphed into one person again.
She heaved a huge sigh and wiped a tear away. “God, I'm finally free.”
“Wait!” I yelled as she began to walk away. “Come back here you bitch!”
She paused and turned around slowly. I gasped and clamped my hand over my mouth. “I'm so so sorry. I didn't mean–”
“I know you didn't,” she said with a devilish smile. “They are all trying to control at the same time. And the only way you can stop it is by touching someone else with the crystal like I did. But in secret because no one is supposed to know.”
“Or else what?” I said in a cocky tone.
She smirked. “Find out if you're curious. And if I were you I'll think about it. Because of course, look what your curiosity has gotten you into.”
