“Come on…” the glowing woman said to me. Her hands were outstretched and half her body was out of the portal.

I was torn. She just gave me a very important, mind-blowing information that I've always wanted to know ever since I was a child. And she said that she could tell me more. And I wanted to know more.

But the thing was that I had to come with her. I had to leave my family, my life, my world. And I didn't know if I could ever possibly find a way to return.

“Don't you want to know the truth?” she whispered again. Her very light blue eyes bored into mine.

I was still squinting at her, blinking too as the thoughts ran through my head.

“I thought you told me the truth? Did you lie?”

She looked taken aback. “A fae cannot lie. I just didn't tell you the full truth. That is all.”

I shut my eyes tight and took a deep breath.

“Please just tell me. Do I get to come back?”

She shook her head sadly, slowly.

“I cannot give you that information my dear. It's the rules. You make the decision.”

I wanted to find my twin sister. We had been separated for a very long time and now the fae in front of me was telling me that she could show me where she was. That she would take me to see her.

But could I really leave my whole life behind because of her?

“I'm very sorry but your time is running out.” She looked at me solemnly. “You have thirty seconds to make a decision.”

“Oh fuck,” I said, dragging my hands through my short pixie hair. I looked around me. I was standing in an alley way in the late evening. The streets were quiet and silent and the weather was cold. Although, the heat that was coming from the portal warmed up the alley a bit.

I wanted to see her. We promised to find each other.

I stared into the fae's eyes and nodded.
“I can't break my promise.”

With that, she took my hand and dragged me into the portal. It closed behind us and for a while all I could see was blinding white light. I felt tiny ice particles graze my skin and ironically, they burned.

After a while all the light cleared up and the temperature plunged.

I wrapped my arms around my body immediately and shivered as I took in the new environment I was in.

We were standing on a yellowish piece of land. Slim trees of different colours stood all around us. The sky was beige in colour and the puffy mass that floated around it was a light shade of blue.

I saw people that dressed similar to the fae walking around, going along with their business. Some people regarded me as they walked past and some just ignored.

“We are in your planet?”

The fae chuckled. “No, it is not a planet. It is a different world–”

“Exactly, the earth is the world so it's a planet which means–”

“It's a different dimension. The portal takes you to different dimensions. And they're almost like your earth but just–”

“A different dimension.”

“Yes.”

I let out a shaky breath. The weather was still cold as hell. “So um, when do I get to see my sister?"

“Right after you turn.”

“Turn? As in directions –”

“Into you true form.”

“My true form? You mean like...you guys?”

“Yes, dear. I mean you turn into a fae.”

“But…but I'm not. So how can I turn into one? And how is it my true form?”

“Didn't you understand all that I told you? You are truly a fae. You and your sister are a part of us. You are from here.”

“So how did I end up in earth?”

“That's a story for a another day. Now let's proceed to–”

“Linda?”

I froze. "Linda."

I whipped around and then saw her.

Tears welled up in my eyes. It was really her. She looked so grown up and so different. Her fae wings fluttered behind her and she had the most beautiful smile as she ran towards me.

I wrapped my arms around her and embraced her tightly, sobbing.

“I thought I'd never see you again.”

“Me too.”

“I have to tell you the truth.”

“Lana no.”

We both turned to face her. The woman had on a very terrifying expression.

“She can't know. It's for her own good.”

“What? No I think it's the opposite–”

“Lana no. Else you get punished. Now say what you want to say to her now and leave. She'll meet you later.”

“Yes ma'am.”

She left and I looked back at the Fae in confusion and worry.

“Let’s proceed.”
