The first weeks of my junior year in high school were crazy. Things that I never even dreamed of happening happened and that was just the start of many beautiful things.

It all began towards the end of maths class. I was bored out of my skull and was so engrossed in the skull with crossbones that I was doodling on the edge of my notebook.

I was suddenly snapped out of my daze by a guy at the table next to mine.

“Cute drawings,” he said with a chuckle.

I looked over at him shyly and I almost gasped. It was Jake Meyers. Cutest guy I'm school and the most charming person I've ever met. Everyone in school knew he played the guitar for a fairly popular band with members outside the school. So basically he was a celebrity.

The only interaction that I'd had with him was one time during lunch when he asked me to pick up something he had dropped on the floor.

The smile he gave me melted my heart into a small puddle right there in my chest and the sound of his voice after he expressed his gratitude for the gesture kept echoing in my head for the rest of the week. After that, I only got to get glances of him during class or as I walked to and fro from my locker in the hallways.

I knew I didn't stand a chance with Jake. Because, 1. I was terribly shy and socially awkward. 2. I was a boring loser and 3. He already had a girlfriend. And you can guess who it was. That's right. The prettiest girl in school, Valerie. It was all so cliché. They had the perfect highschool couple names. The thing I was confused about was the fact that she was easily the worst human being in the planet. She was always rude and didn't give a fuck about anyone besides herself…and Jake of course.

So yeah. Back to the classroom incident. My brain blanked and I had suddenly lost the ability to speak so I just nodded at him with a smile and went back to my notebook.

Luckily, class ended soon after and the moment of torture was over. Well that also didn't last because after that was lunch.

was sitting alone, as I usually do, at my spot in the cafeteria, still doodling. I was obsessed with drawing and couldn't stay more than a few hours without scribbling something graphic on paper.

Anyway, I paused to grab a bottle of water and suddenly someone placed their tray opposite mine and took a seat. You guessed correctly. It was jake. I choked on the water but luckily after a few coughs and sputters, I was fine. As fine as I could possibly be with him sitting opposite me.

“Hey,” he started with a wave and a small smile.

“Hi?” I replied with raised brows, like a fool.

He let out a chuckle at my obvious uncomfort and the sound made my heart stop for a second.

“I know this is weird, me sitting at your table. But does it matter? Does anything matter? I'm here now and I want to talk to you. And…just ignore the stares of people around us okay?”

I nodded meekly and tried to catch my breath. Looking at him did that to me. But it was hard to not look away. I had the sudden urge to reach out and run my hands through his dark curls. I also couldn't stop staring into his dazzling, grey eyes. He was so beautiful. He wasn't very masculine. It's was so frustrating because he was prettier than all the girls but cuter than all the boys and somehow all the girls preferred his cuteness to the other guys’ hotness.

“I'm Jake,” he said very humbly, like he truly had no idea that everyone in the entire school probably knew who he was. “If you didn’t know, I play the guitar for this amazing band that I'm super grateful to a be a part of.”

He took a sip from his bottle of orange juice and went on. “That's basically the only thing anyone in school knows about me…well except Val.”

My heart twisted at her name. Val, his pretty, perfect girl.
