I'd always been a quiet kid. I was always in a corner by myself with my thoughts, my phone or a novel. People always pressured me to be more lively and out there. I'd never found anything wrong with myself. I loved being like that. I'd learnt to embrace my introversion and my personality.

Well, until I began to notice some not-so-normal things about myself. Things like...

My skin always reacted abnormally with sunlight. It got irritated easily and sometimes, I got sick due to it. The doctors said it was normal but I wasn't hundred percent sure.

Another weird thing I noticed was that I was a little too sensitive. I had excellent sight, I could hear sounds from a mile away etc. It was torture.

I barely slept but strangely, I never felt tired, had eyebags or dark circles under them. Did I forget to say that I was deathly pale? It was fascinating and I worried so much about it but since life went on normally, I decided to ignore it.

Well, one day after school, it all started to make sense.

As I walked home under a scorching sun, my entire body began to feel weak. I couldn't breathe properly and I was getting dizzy.
So I decided to rest under a shade for a while until the sun came down a little.

As I stood by the fairly lonely street, I noticed that I had calmed down a bit but there was still this feeling that wouldn't leave. Like I was craving something but I just couldn't put my finger on it.

After waiting for about half an hour and noticing that the sun still hadn't gone down, I decided to sit next to a brick wall.

And that's when two guys showed up. I recognized them from my school. They were bullies.

“Hey, aren't you that sad, boring dude from school? What're you doing here?” one of them called out in that voice I'd always hated.

I was already uncomfortable. I didn't need their problems.

I stayed mute until the other one decided to look for trouble.

“Are you deaf or something? Oh so you can't speak and you can't hear either?”

I was still mute, trying my best to ignore them both. But they'd decided, for some reason, to get under my skin.

The one that spoke last picked up a rock and threw it at me. I didn't know what got into me. I lunged at the two of them.

I gave one a hard blow that sent him to the ground. He curled up as he lay there, clutching his face.

I turned to the other one who looked like he had really wanted to get in a fight. So I gave him what he wanted.

I easily took him to the ground with a tackle. I pinned him down there and he struggled but, surprisingly I was much stronger than he was.

I looked over at the other one who was still lying on the ground, looking weak. And then I looked back at the one beneath me.

Suddenly, something took over me.

My eyes suddenly became fixated on his neck. I felt my canines grow so much that it almost cut through my mouth. I opened my mouth wide and bared my teeth at the frightened boy.

The smooth, soft skin of his neck looked appetising and I couldn't help myself. I didn't understand what was going on until I finally bit him.

His scream echoed around the quiet street but I didn't stop. I breathed in satisfaction as his blood spurted out and ran down his neck. I drank so much of it until I felt a hand on my leg.

“Stop! Please!”

I suddenly came back to my senses and I moved away from the boy. My teeth returned to their normal size and all the superhuman strength began to fade away.

They sped off without wasting a second and I was left there on the street, wondering what the hell just happened.

What the fuck, did I just drink blood?

I was a vampire?

Everything suddenly made sense. The pale skin, my aversion to sunlight, sensitivity, lack of sleep.

Did my parents know about this?

I got up suddenly, grabbed my backpack, wiped my bloody mouth on my sleeve and ran home.

I burst through the front door as soon as I arrived and luckily, my parents were already back.

“Oh hey honey how was school?” my mother said from the kitchen.

“Mom, dad, am I a vampire?” I blurted.

“What?” they chorused.

I studied their faces but I couldn't get anything. I wasn't sure if they looked surprised or guilty.

“Am I a vampire? Or am I just a sicko who loves to eat their fellow humans and drink their blood? What do they call that, a cannibal right? And if I am a vampire, are you also vampires? And if you are why would you hide that from–”

They rushed over to me. I was hyperventilating.

“Calm down Eric, breathe. We'll talk about this later,” my father said.

“No! I want to talk about it now! Now! Or I run away from here! I drank a kid's blood for God's sake!”

They gasped and let go of me immediately. The monster was back. I could feel the fangs growing again and once I bared them, they started talking.

“We had to save you from the madness,” my mother began. “They were using you young ones for bad things.”

"Can you elaborate please!”

“They're vampires!!! They were using their offspring as an army to attack the mortal world. You ran away when you were young and we saw you luckily, so we took you with us.”

“So I am a vampire…?” I was dazed. The fangs went back in slowly and I ran my hands through my hair.

Silence.

“And my parents…?” I felt a lump in my throat.

“They're vampires. But you'll never see them again.”

“You took me away from my parents?!” I asked incredulously.

“They were bad people and they were going to use you for bad things!” My father yelled.

“Honey, we're your parents. We care about you more than they ever will–” my mother began.

I looked up at them with a cold stare and they both took a step back.

“Take me to my parents. Now.”

They shared a glance.
