"Don't think about going back to Serim."

Hyunjin spoke softly as if he'd read her mind. Ryujin quickly turned her head and looked at him. Now that her eyes had become accustomed to the dark, she could clearly see Hyunjin's sharp face. Hyunjin looked back at her unblinkingly and repeated himself.

"I have no plans of sending you back to that bastard."

"...Why not?"

"Because it's dangerous."

There was only one reason why Hyunjin told Jaehyun that Ryujin was still alive. It was to warn him of what was to come.

It wasn't that Jaehyun didn't want to tell Hyunjin to return to Serim, it was that he couldn't. Hyunjin had already grown in power, and Jaehyun was starting to feel afraid. The animosity between them had already reached its limit, and it was only a matter of time before the bubble burst.

Hyunjin actually thought that it was for the best. It was better that they had this happen before his trip to China. It would be easier to begin an outright attack on Jaehyun as an enemy.

As Hyunjin brushed away these thoughts, he tightened his grip on Ryujin's hand as she tried to pull it away. Clink. The metallic ringing of the handcuffs filled the room.

"...If I don't go back, I won't be able to kill him."

"I'll capture Jeong Jaehyun and bring him to you. I promise."

"I don't trust anything the police says."

"It doesn't matter if you don't believe me. Either way, you won't be going back to Serim."

She felt as if she was speaking to a wall. Ryujin raised her voice in frustration.

"...Why are you doing this to me? Why does it matter to you whether I live or die? Don't tell me it's because you're police. You told me yourself that a truckload of people have died by your hands already!"

Hyunjin looked at her in silence. Not wanting to lose, Ryujin glared into his intense gaze.

"Do you really not know the reason?"

Hyunjin finally opened his mouth. Ryujin frowned. She took a deep breath as she glared at him. He continued.

"You have a good head on your shoulders. You're pretty smart, so why can't you figure it out?"

"I don't know."

"I told you I don't want you to be in danger."

"I've lived my life like that way before I met you."

"Then stay in my shadow and live in safety."

"And why do I have to do that?"

Ryujin asked in disbelief. His hand felt hot as it grasped hers. Their bodies were sweaty, but because they were stuck together, she couldn't tell where the sweat was coming from. Hyunjin kept his deep eyes on her and replied. He murmured in a soft voice as his gaze intimidated her.

"I'll only say this once, so listen closely."

"......"

"You asked me why I cared whether you live or die even though I've killed a truckload of people. Isn't it obvious? How could your life possibly compare to the lives of thug bastards?"

She didn't understand his shameless words. Being a member of Serim, she hadn't lived a clean life either. She had probably done all the things any member of YongSung had done as well. When he saw that she was still looking at him in confusion, Hyunjin let out a long sigh.
