"He's got a weird fucking name," I sniffed softly, resting my elbows on the table in front of me and leaning against my clasped hands.

"It's Greek," Blake rolled her eyes, moving the five printed photographs further down the table.

"It's still weird," I bit back a smile as I felt her annoyance in the slight hitch of her heartbeat, "why couldn't he have been called something like Dave?"

"How many supervillains have you met who are called Dave?" Aaron snorted, raising one of the photos up into the light and squinting at it.

"He's not a supervillain," Blake quipped shortly, "he's an ambitious man, an alpha with the skill to give us protection and strength."

"Didn't he kind of, maybe, sort of kill his entire pack?" Paisley raised her hand, pinching her fingers close together, "Just like a little?" Blake's heartbeat quickened again, and Paisley quickly dropped her hand back into her lap, a sheepish smile growing on her face.

"Listen," Blake set her hands down on her hips, "whether you like it or not, we're here now—"

"Where exactly is here?" Aaron's hand shot up slightly, "Cause I was unconscious for most of the ride here, and I am confused."

We'd left Arizona late last night under the cover of thick fog and light drizzle, running through the woods until we reached Mason's car. It drove us out of Sedona, down a path we did not know, with smells we could not identify and without a single answer to any one question we had.

"This place is a beacon for people like us," Blake explained shortly, "all you need to know is that we are in the right place and we are on the road to a safe future."

"That is irritatingly vague," I scoffed, leaning back in my chair so I could cross my arms over my chest, "what exactly was so dangerous about Sedona?"

"You mean aside from the hunters, right?" Aaron threw me a quick, cheeky smile.

My lips twitched, "Maybe they were a danger to you, but..."

"Oh," Aaron pointed his finger at me, "Oh, I see how it is. Little Miss Tough Guy."

"I'm not saying I'm tough, I'm just saying I've carried you away from danger— bridal style— one too many times." I rolled my eyes, trying to ignore the holes Blake was trying to burn through her brother and I.

"Hey, you don't credit the charger for the skills of the phone," Aaron partially jumped out of his seat, "and it was never bridal style!"

"Am I invisible?" Blake's voice cut through the room like a drop landing in a sink full of water, ominous and echoing, "Or perhaps, you have all forgotten who is in charge?"

"Mason," Aaron blurted, dropping back down into his seat, "Mason is in charge and yet," he looked around the scarcely decorated kitchen we were in, "I can't see him anywhere."

"Mason is busy with bigger things," Blake explained coolly, a touch of gold briefly swirling through her eyes.

"Bigger than this pack?" Aaron, who never seemed to know when he'd toed the line with his sister, pushed. "Bigger than explaining a move to a new state? Bigger than explaining why we have to join with some random new pack?"
