"You might enjoy yourself," Allison mumbled softly while she got dressed, "but it would also make total sense if you didn't feel up to it."
There was a lacrosse game on tonight, Kira's first game, considering the amount of cancelled games they'd had that season.
I sighed, rubbing my hands down my thighs, "Nope. I'm gonna do it. Kira is really excited about this game, and this might be the exact kind of normality that I need."
I hadn't been anywhere in a week except to Derek's place once and to the police station once to complete the 'missing person's' search Stilinski had started up. I didn't like being out very much, but I didn't like being inside either. I hated silence, but loud noises sent me spiralling. I didn't want to be alone either, but being around people made my chest tighten to the point I couldn't breathe. There was no win.
No one pointed anything out, though. Everyone, including me, just tried to move on and go forward. So, a lacrosse game it was.
"Okay, so," Paisley dropped down to my right on the bleachers, holding out a bag of popcorn, "a very suspicious looking figure was selling bags of popcorn and hotdogs in the parking lot. Now, I wasn't brave enough to buy a hotdog, but the popcorn looks fine."
I snorted softly, digging a bit of popcorn out of the bag, "Look at us, living on the edge."
"Fearless," Paisley agreed dramatically before she motioned to the pitch, "so what exactly is lacrosse?"
"No one really knows," Allison, who sat to my left, called out, smiling gently, "we don't come here for the game. We come here for the sweaty boys and electric energy."
In unison, we all looked to the pitch just in time to watch Stiles trip over his own feet while trying to lace up his shoes.
"Electrifying," I murmured, shaking my head slowly.
"Kira looks ready," Malia, who sat between Allison and Lydia, announced, "a little murderous, but definitely ready."
"She's gonna do great," Allison decided, "she's been practising for a whole month now. Which is why..." she leaned down, pulling out a rolled up poster from her bag, unravelling it, "we are all going to show her one hundred per cent of our support."
Her poster was covered in bright, orange glitter and a neatly painted fox laying on top of a lacrosse stick. The words, 'Kick some ass, Kira' were printed in bold, black letters on top.
"Help me hold this up," Allison demanded of Malia and Lydia, "but only hold the corners. Some of the paint is still dryi— Corners, Lydia! Corners!"
"So," Paisley drew my attention back to her, nudging my shoulder softly before motioning to the pitch, "Isaac is cute."
A prickle of distaste circled my stomach as I eyed her before I followed her line of sight to Isaac, who had started running across the pitch under the sharp dictation of Coach's whistle. Though he was focusing on the game, a touch of pink brushed over his cheeks for a second, and I knew he'd heard her little compliment.
"You guys are a thing, right?" Paisley blurted, her eyes curious as they flit to me.
I almost choked on my spit before I began to cough heavily to hide the sudden rush in my heartbeat.
"I totally get it." Paisley continued easily, "Tall, sweet, blue eyes, protective... he's practically a fictional boyfriend."
"We—" I took in a deep breath, "no! We're just friends."
