"I could have done this by myself," I grit out, my hands clenched into tight balls on top of my knees, "I should do this by myself."
"Don't be ridiculous," Allison quipped shortly, "dad found five vampires living in your old pack house. You mentioned yourself that you could take on one or two, but not five."
I shuffled forward, gripping onto the back of the driver's seat as Scott drove Allison's car, "Fully enhanced I can. Turn the car around, let's go home. I'll leave tonight, weaken them, and be back by morni—"
"Korey, I already said no," Scott cut me off sternly, "no one is doing anything, and especially not alone. We're going to talk to them."
Chris had managed to draw out the patriarch of the vampire clan, Finn Song, who was apparently a very reasonable and calm man. He'd arranged a meeting for Scott to speak with him as an act of good faith, to try to stop any further bad blood from building between the werewolves and vampires of Beacon Hills.
I thought it was a trap, a stupid trap, that we were walking head first into.
The closer we got to my old pack house, the tenser I got, and my bones became so rigid they hurt. I wanted to shift. I wanted to take on my evolved form and rip through every vampire with my teeth. I knew what they did, I'd seen it, I'd heard it, smelt, and felt it. But my pack hadn't, so I had to stay to make sure they wouldn't all die.
The vampires came outside one by one as we clambered out of the car, crowding out onto the porch—my porch— to watch us.
Finn Song was easily distinguishable; tanned, neat, and dressed in a suit that would have been fashionable if it hadn't belonged to Aaron at one point. He stood at the front, Jace Callan at his left and a tall, dark woman at his right, the clan's matriarch. "Welcome. I appreciate you agreeing to meet with us."
Stiles' jeep pulled up beside Allison's, and the remainder of the pack piled out, all eight of us standing together.
Finn smiled narrowly, though his eyes remained emotionless, "Please," he motioned to the front door, "come in."
Scott's heart pounded in my ears despite his impassive face, and I knew he was beyond nervous. Still, he took a cautious step forward.
Finn's hand shot up as Allison went to follow him, "Not you. No humans should enter the house." He glanced behind him at a slight, blonde girl leaning against the wall of the house, "Not all of us have quite mastered our self-control."
"I can't leave Stiles or Allison out here alone," Scott stated simply, "I'm sorry, but I can't trust you."
"No need to apologise," the matriarch spoke up, her voice deep and soothing, "you are wise not to leave your pack unattended. I suggest you leave the banshee and the dog with them." Her eyes flit to me then, her head tilting as her eyes flashed red for a moment.
"Your banshee is more human than supernatural," Finn quickly explained, "she may be in danger in the house." He paused before pointing at me, "Your friend tried to kill one of my clan. I do not think it is appropriate for her to be in our home—"
"It's my home," I snapped curtly, my eyes narrowing into slits, "and you'd be wise to keep me away because next time, I'll bite."
Finn offered Scott a small smile as if to say,'You see what I mean', and Scott sighed in response, turning to me, "Stay with the others."
