"Do you really think this is going to help?" Allison sighed, staring out at the target practise piece of paper Lydia had hung up on a tree a couple of feet away from us.

"It can't hurt to try," I mumbled, eyeing all the bits and pieces lying inside of Allison's archery kit.

"I know that if you think it's not going to help, it definitely won't!" Lydia chirped happily, swinging her arms as she walked back over to us. She got behind Allison, sighed heavily before bringing her fists up, trying to be supportive. "So, get your head into it, shoot a few, and see what happens."

"And you know, it's totally fine if you need a few tries to get it right," I taking a step back from Allison as she arched her arm back, the bow tucked against her shoulder. "Give it your best sho—"

Allison released the arrow, the sleek metal soaring through the air before it landed in the soil beside the tree.

"Oh..." Lydia cringed, "yeah..."

"Okay," I shrugged, eyeing Allison's shaking arm, "Maybe more than a few tries, but hey," I clapped my hands together, "Rome wasn't built in a day. Try again."

Allison raised another arrow into her bow, her fingers trembling harder, and once again, the metal flew, but it missed its target by a long shot.

"Maybe hold the string differently?" Lydia agreed with me, "Try the Mongolian draw."

I frowned in confusion, and Allison mimicked my expression, both of us turning to Lydia.

"What?" The red-head shrugged, rolling her eyes, "I read. Try it!"

Allison did as she demanded, slipping another arrow into her bow.

"I don't know a lot about archery," I paused, a slight smile pricking my lips, "except when there's an arrow sticking out of me—"

"Really?" Lydia huffed, her eyes going wide with annoyance.

"I'm being supportive!" I griped, "I'm reminding her that if she did it once, she can do it again!"

"Shoot you?"

"No! Fire an arrow!" I whipped around to Allison, laughing nervously, "Please don't shoot me again. I didn't like it."

"Most people don't," Allison murmured, shaking her head at me, "I'm going again."

"Okay!" I clapped my hands together, "You can do this!"

She could not, in fact, do it. The arrow didn't even land in the ground that time. It just bumped into a tree and fell to the floor like a sad stick.

"Okay, um..." Lydia tried again as Allison closed her eyes in frustration, "Take a second to close your eyes and imagine the arrow going into the target."

"If it helps, picture a person you really hate," I offered, crouching down to rest my arms on my knees, "I find when I miss the target, it always helps if I think about Deucalion."

"Actually..." Lydia pointed her finger out at me, "not terrible advice for once."

"Don't sound so surprised," I snorted, a slither of amusement coursing through me, "I'm not dumb."

"Act like it," Lydia fired back, her smile sugar sweet.

"Did you see that?" Allison cut off our bickering with a small flinch and panic seeping into her voice.
