"Homologous structures...parts of animals have very different functions to a person... a human does not walk on its hands, a dog does walk on its front legs— clearly, you haven't met Derek Hale." I huffed, slamming my biology textbook closed before I dropped my forehead on top of the cover.

It was dead quiet in the Argent apartment, all the lights turned off except for the lamp in my room.

Chris was out somewhere on business, and Allison was already asleep since she hadn't given up on high school at the age of fifteen like I had.

I now had a stack of books ranging from Freshman year to Junior year, all with differing levels of complexity and even if I was a quick learner, I was so, so sick of algebra and metaphors.

I groaned quietly as my foot kicked the stack of books in question by accident as they sat under my desk, turning to press my cheek against the book cover as I turned my head to the side. It was dark outside, a few stray clouds passing by the half full moon that glowed over Beacon Hills.

Chris had added bars to the outside of my windows, and although they looked terrifying to everyone else, they filled me with the greatest sense of comfort. There was no way for me to fall four floors down if there were bars blocking the fall. Chris had patiently heard my story and returned the next day with all his tools, no further words needed between us.

It had only been a month since everything had happened, but everything felt so different. Being a part of Scott's pack, so far, had been easy. There was no pressure, no demands, no randomly chasing alpha packs, or stabbing each other in the backs. No matter how hesitant they had all been about me before, as soon as Scott brought me into his circle, everyone was cool with me, even Stiles. For once in my life, everything felt just fine.

Then, Allison screamed.

I'd half dozed off to my own thoughts, but the sound of her shrieking hysterically sent my body into auto-pilot mode, and I lurched up, my chair falling backwards and crashing to the floor loudly. "Allison?!" I raced through my room, tearing my bedroom door open and rushing down the corridor, bursting into Allison's room without hesitation.

Her room was dark, the only light streaming in from between her curtains, and her sheets were all tangled up into knots and draped across the floor.

She was thrashing in her bed, switching between screaming and lashing out and mumbling illegible words to herself.

I scanned the room for anyone or anything before I rushed across it, jumping onto her bed and shuffling over it on my knees, grabbing onto Allison's shoulders and shaking them firmly. "Allison? Alli?"

Allison didn't wake, her eyes rolling behind her eyelids, her mouth forming one word over and over again. Kate.

I shook her harder before reaching to pat her cheeks in a repetitive rhythm, "Allison!"

Allison lunged up, taking in a deep, heavy breath, her heart rattling against her ribs as she continued to pant. The septic stench of terror came off her in waves, and I could feel it sticking to my skin as well.

"Hey," I held onto her shoulder, leaning down slightly so I could look at her face, "Allison? Are you alright?"

She kept breathing heavily, her eyes distant and watery, her mouth hanging open slightly as if she wasn't quite sure if she was done screaming yet or not.

"Allison?" I repeated myself, moving my hand to her back to rub it slowly, "Another nightmare?"

Allison took in a deep, shaky breath before blinking her eyes a few times and turning to me, her voice small, "Yeah."
