KOREY

"Allison! Have you seen my left shoe?!" I yelled out, tossing the clothes off my chair and onto my bed before I dropped to my knees to check under my desk.

"What kind of shoe?!" Allison asked through the walls.

"The black one!"

"Which black one?!"

I groaned softly, pressing my forehead into my carpet for a minute before I stood up again, scanning my room again.

"Korey?!" Allison called out again.

"It's alright!" I laughed out before grabbing my bag, "I'll wear my other ones!" I moved to my bedroom door, "Are you driving to school, or are you getting picked up?!"

"Driving!"

I opened my door, stopping short as two pairs of eyes met mine, two equally wide smiles plastered onto two faces. "Hi... person who lives here and person who doesn't. Can I help you?"

"Good morning," Chris's grin widened, if possible, "how are you feeling?"

I blinked at him, nodding slowly, "Good..."

"Any pain, nausea, shortness of breath or confusion?" Isaac listed off from his phone, staring at me suspiciously.

"Uh..." I leaned back slightly, trying to force down my smile, "no, no, no, yes."

"Yes?" Isaac spluttered, lowering his phone sharply.

"I'm going to call to Deaton," Chris turned partially, making to rush down the hallway.

"Wha—" I grabbed his arm, pulling him back, "Seriously? This again? I thought we agreed to stop this after the first week."

"It has only been a month," Chris's smile dropped to a stern stare, "it doesn't hurt to be extra careful."

"The most unexpected symptoms could surface under stress and after a month," Isaac added on, trying to appear convincing.

"Okay, Einstein," I sighed heavily, raising my fingers to pinch the bridge of my nose, "You know I'm, like... better, right?" I dropped my hand to meet their eyes, "That's why it's called evolving."

"Yeah, yeah," Isaac nodded quickly, "totally yeah, it's just that you kind of, sort of... died."

"Yes, but I'm better now," I argued, letting my bag slide off my shoulder and hit the floor with a light thump.

"People don't tend to get better after death, and if they do, they're called zombies," Isaac blurted flatly.

I raised my hands out in front of me, spreading my fingers and wiggling them in front of his face, "Brains?"

Isaac huffed, swatting my hands away before he stooped down and grabbed my bag off the floor.

"I tried telling them you were fine," Allison mused from her doorway, tapping away on her phone before she met my eyes as I slunk out of my room, "you look deadly."

"Allison, we agreed not to make jokes about dying," Chris groaned loudly as he walked past us to the kitchen.

"How else are we meant to get over the fact I died if not by making jokes?" I scrunched my face up in confusion, and Allison did the same before she slipped her arm through mine. I nudged her side lightly, checking Chris and Isaac were out of sight before I mumbled. "So... Isaac?"

"Don't," Allison huffed lightly, "we've decided to just pretend nothing happened between us and continue on as friends."

"Hm," I snorted quietly, combing through the shoes at the front door, "you're really radiating friendliness..."
