"It did something." I shrugged hesitantly, looking down at the school path in front of me, "It was like the whole month I was losing control of myself, and suddenly, everything snapped back into place."
"Did you tell Scott?" Stiles glanced at me, hoisting his backpack higher up on his shoulder.
"No," I pulled a face, "I don't want to give him more to worry about by letting him know that my enhancements are going haywire. Besides," I met his eyes hesitantly, "it's over now. I'm good."
"Are you sure?" Stiles pushed, not in a mean way but with genuine concern.
I wasn't quite sure, but I'd tried to enhance my hearing and vision before bed the night before, and I hadn't needed anger to do it. That was a good enough sign for me. "I'm sure, Stiles."
"Good," he let a smile grow on his face at last, "by the way, my dad was asking when you're free. He wants to take all of us out for pizza as a thank-you."
My heart melted a little, and I matched his grin, "That's so nice of him. He knows he doesn't have to—"
"Woah, woah, woah," Stiles hand jumped out to stop me in my tracks, "dude, is that who I think they are?"
I followed his line of sight, the hairs on the back of my neck rising up as I caught sight of the Steiner twins standing in front of Scott. "Unfortunately..."
"Let's go," Stiles darted forward, his heart lurching with nerves.
"You're back in school?" Scott asked cautiously, staring between the two brothers.
"No, just to talk," Ethan stepped forward calmly.
"Oh, that's kind of a change of pace for you guys," Stiles blurted out, sliding up besides Scott, all his defences raised like a mother bear with her cub. "Usually, you're just hurting, maiming, and killing..."
"You need a pack," Aiden stated simply. "We need an Alpha." His heartbeat didn't waver, but trusting him was like trusting a boa constrictor not to strangle you.
Stiles scoffed loudly, "Yeah, absolutely not!" He glanced back at me, pulling a face, "That's hilarious, though, right?"
I nodded slowly, tracking my eyes from one twin to the next, "A real comedy routine."
"You don't get to talk," Aiden snapped at me, his lips pulling back slightly before he jerked his head to Scott. "You came to us for help. We helped."
I drew back from them slightly as my heart hammered into my ribs once but strongly enough to steal the air from my lungs.
Stiles spluttered incredulously, "You beat his face into a blood pulp!" He threw his hand out at Scott, "That's not helping. In my opinion, that's actually counter-productive."
"Why would I say yes?" Scott asked carefully, glancing back briefly as Isaac crept over to us as well, his face guarded.
"We'd add strength," Aiden declared, "We'd make you more powerful. There's no reason to say no."
