KOREY

"Korey," Paisley rushed after me, her hand reaching out to try and grab mine, but she missed it every time by a millimetre, "Korey, wait."
"The recital is starting," I kept my eyes trained on the double doors leading into the assembly hall, "we can't be late."
I'd given Allison twenty-four hours from the moment I'd destroyed her haven of safety. I wasn't exactly sure for what... Repentance? Pleading? Something... whatever it was, the twenty-four hours were up. She was out of time.
"Korey," Paisley tried again, giving up on grabbing my hand and holding onto the back of my hoodie instead. "You promised Blake you wouldn't do anything again."
"Actually, I promised Blake that I wouldn't needlessly throw myself into harm's way," I repeated the words Blake had drilled into me at her. "This is not needless, and it's not in harm's way."
"She's a hunter," Paisley reminded me, "her family have killed hundreds of us—"
I whipped around, feeling my eyes sharpen, "And if I have to, I will kill a thousand of them," the corners of my eyes tinged red and I tried to blink it away before turning away from her again, "someone should."
Paisley grabbed my arm before I could head off again, her grip firm and no longer desperate, "Have you thought this through? I mean, really thought this through? It may not have been Allison."
I thought back to the arrowhead, which had ripped through my stomach that sat in the drawer of my nightstand at home. The same seal, the same intention to kill, only one had been successful, and the other had failed. Allison shouldn't have failed with me.
"There are other murders going on..." Paisley hesitated, "remember the boy tied to the tree on our first day here? There were more after him: doctors, teenagers, teachers—"
"What is your point?" I turned my body to face her, my face impassive, "What? Do you think Archie was a sacrifice of whatever sicko is running around Beacon Hills strangling people and slitting their throats?" I took a slight step towards her as a flutter of anger coursed through my stomach, "In case you've forgotten, allow me to remind you that Archie was stabbed in the back. He wasn't kidnapped. He wasn't strangled or tied to anything. He was stabbed in the back."
"I know but—"
"They were so cowardly, they couldn't even face him from the front," I cut her off, taking a step back from her, "they stabbed him in the back and I'm going to return the favour tenfold."
"Korey, the sacrificial murders—"
"Are not our problem." I threw over my shoulder, setting off down the corridor again and pushing my way into the recital hall. I barely managed to take a step inside the room before a hand reached out for mine and pulled me to the side.
"Hey," Ethan's voice was gentle in my ears, full of sympathy and kindness, "I didn't think we'd be seeing you for a while."
I scanned my eyes over the hall, spotting McCall and Lydia but not the person I had come for, "I didn't want to miss the recital." I turned my eyes to his, "I hear it'll be one heck of a performance."
"Oh, I'm sure it will be," Aiden appeared behind his brother, offering me a small nod in greeting that conveyed his somewhat heartfelt condolences. "I could smell you from a mile away."
"Which is expected," Ethan quickly added on, throwing his twin a wide-eyed expression, "grief comes in many forms, and anger is definitely one of them."
