Dakota sat there at her doorstep on top of bags and swinging an empty vodka bottle side to side. She was wearing no make and her tangled hair covered the side of her face. Her eyes were souless, with bags dropping under them. Her mom peered from the third to top floor window, waving her hands wildly. Dakota's mom was once an attractive woman, she had wavy long ginger hair, and crystal blue eyes which anyone could get lost in an instant, she had pale skin and bold face, complimented by her sharp jawline. Nowadays, it was just plain, her eyes not as glistering anymore, her hair no longer full of so much life, just, plain.
'Why are you still here?! If you miss your father so much go live with him because there is no way that I"m having a druggy live in my house. You shame me!' She screamed at her daughter. Dakota stood up wearily sand turned to face her mother. She stabbed a finger at her in the air, cutting her off.
'For gods sake don't you understand the stuff in my bag wasn't mine?! But if it was you can't blame me can you? How many of the men you slept with did you tell Dakota Brookes is your daughter huh? Because I'm the family embarrassment. I'm the one that throws herself to everyone that offers comfort because I can't depend on myself?! Fuck you mother!' She emphasised on the word mother, and watched her as she slammed the window shut. She fell back onto the doorstep, and cupped her face in her hands, sobbing silently.
Mona jogged round the corner and stopped in her tracks when she Dakota in nearly her worst state. She moved her headphones to round her neck and grabbed the bottle, on the floor throwing into to the bin.
'God Dakota. You're 14. What the hell are you doing with your life?!' She snapped at her. Dakota rose her head, sniffing as she twiddled her thumbs.
'I don't know.'
Mona noticed how Dakota was surrounded by luggage.
'Did you get kicked out?!' She whispered in shock. Dakota nodded reluctantly, but shrugged it off.
'Whatever. I don't need a deadbeat mother. To think she would still be with my father living a lie if I didn't take her to the place where he likes to go to when he's not at work.' She scoffed, smirking. Mona rolled her eyes picking up her items.
'Get up.'
'Where, where we going?' She stammered.
'To my place. At least there I know you'll be in safe hands.'
'Why are you doing this? Your girlfriend is stuck in some crappy drug asylum if wasn't for me.'
Mona sighed.
'I know, but you wouldn't have had to that if I actually wasn't so neglecting towards you. Especially during everything with your parents.'
'No, no, I was being selfish. I understand the world doesn't revolve around me. At least now I do. Can we go back to talking?'
'Course.'
They shared an embrace, and began to walk, the luggage filling the gap between them.
'You know I would like to go to Colarado.'
