'You do realise one day she'll notice how many times you've been staring at her.' April heard from a voice behind her. She jumped, then turned rotated her head to see Casey towering over her.
'God, you scared me. And I can't help staring okay? You would think that Mona would at least try to make some sort of arrangement by now so things weren't so tense.' She protested, turning back to her lunch.
Casey chuckled, sitting beside her at the table.
'Don't forget how long it took for her to actually forgive Dakota after she shipped her girlfriend to rehab. They didn't speak for three months.' He reminded her in a more serious tone.
April, pushed her food away from her, her eyes drooping to the ground. She felt Casey put his hand on her shoulder, giving it a reassuring squeeze. April looked up, scratching her neck.
'Well, hear she comes.' She mumbled so only her and Casey could hear. Mona walked over and stood between the two tables with two other girls on the cheerleading squad behind her, one holding a box of posters and the other holding one full of badges. The one in charge of the badges tossed them across the tables, the badge falling into April's.
'Vote Mona Stockman for Homecoming Queen. Why wouldn't you?' Mona commented, her devious bitch smirk broadening on her face.
April picked up the badge, and shoved into her jacket pocket, muttering something under her breath. Why the hell is she handing out merch before they even list the nominees? Mona coughed, and crouched down, nearly reaching April's level.
'Sorry, what was that?'
'Nothing.' April snapped, even though sounding pissed wasn't her intention.
Mona just giggled rolling her eyes behind April's back.
'My bad, just thought you said something, probably something else you plan on doing to ruin my life.'
Casey scoffed and laughed at the same time.
'Oh Mona, always have been a dramaqueen.'
'Oh Casey, always have been a douchebag.' Mona hissed, before laughing off her snide comment with her fellow cheerleaders.
April, slammed her hands against the table and got up.
'Okay, that's it.'
Mona and her stood face to face, inches away from each other, giving each other anything but looks of happiness.
'Are you going through some sort of identity crisis? Because one can't go from being so shy and emotional to some cocky diva in a period of one week!' She yelled. This had caught the attention of many.
Mona scoffed, putting a hand on her hip.
'Course they can, but why does it matter to you, seeing none of my friends seem to have any regards on how I feel with things which have nothing to do with them!' She yelled back at her.
April clenched her jaw, her eyes rolling around the room, before darting back at Mona's
'Lemme make this clear. We all knew that Leo had feelings for you, and as soon as you started to like him back, we thought it was best if we just showed him the truth seeing you couldn't. We saw you were struggling telling him about California and of course, I get that! But aren't secrets what got in the way of your relationship with Raph? ' her voice had gone extremely quiet, and her eyes widended, hoping to get to Mona. Mona flared her nostrils, her face darkening.
'Well, like I said yesterday, I don't need you telling me right from wrong, you think you know me so well? But at the end of the day you don't. And FYI, I know who I am. I'm Mona Elise Stockman, one of the most popular girls in Roosevelt, practically part of Manhattan royalty, and soon to be Homecoming Queen. I don't need to rely on anyone, I make my own choices and let's face it April, we all know that you wouldn't be as well known as you are today because it's obvious I call the shots here. and if anyone and I mean anyone has a problem with the way things go with me, they know their way out. I'll see you in math, they'll be announcing homecoming princesses soon.' She tilted her head and gave Casey and April a fake goodbye wave smiling smugly, before moving to the middle of the lunch hall and sitting back at the centre table. April glared at Mona briefly before storming out of the cafeteria, not expecting Casey to follow her. Casey huffed, moving his hair from his face. Women.
A static noise blared through all of the school, causing students to wince and complain about the noise. Conversations began to fade, and people began listening to the headteacher Mrs Masters speak.
'Afternoon students, I am pleased to tell you how we now have the results for your potential 2015 Homecoming Queen and King.'
Murmurs and cheers scattered across the hall.
'The nominations for King in no specific order are: Harry Underwood, Jason Johanson, and Casey Jones.' A light round of applause rose, as well as the nominees did. Casey waved grinning at everyone, he was seriously confused, how the hell did he get nominated?
'Now, for Queen we have: April O'neil, Victoria Fletcher and Mona Stockman.' The applause for these nominees multiplied. Mona got up, and waved, blowing kisses at everyone. She wasn't surprised that she was a princess, but April?! That just gave her a reason to work twice as hard.

April stopped in her tracks when she heard her name being blasted through the speakers. What? And if matters couldn't get any worse for her and Mona.
Mona cleared her throat, and stood on the table, attempting to get everyone's attention.
Excuse me everyone?' She shouted, waiting for people to stop talking.
'Yo! Shut up!' She screamed so loudly, the hall fell silent instantly. She smiled, admiring her work.
'Thank you. Now, I just want to say congratulations to my fellow nominees, and how thankful I am to be nominated myself. A lot of you know that next to cheerleading, music, science and athletics that I'm an advanced dancer, and this Saturday, be sure to come and support my crew's charity event at Macy's at noon. Oh, and those who happen to show up before the event, be sure to pop in to Forever 21 and tell them Mona sent you, you're welcome. And I'll leave you on a good note, Express your artistic side, let Mona be your muse, and vote Stockman for Homecoming Queen. Love you all.' She blew a big kiss and smiled brightly, everyone cheering and hooting for her. Mona blushed, playing with the ends of her ponytail, her eyes met Casey's and she gave him a wink.
Casey lifted his head and turned away. Things would get real awkward if they had to slow dance together.
