'Here's my stop.'
Alex rose an eyebrow at Mona, pulling over outside April's apartment.
'You sure?'
'Never been surer!' Mona beamed.
Alex shrugged, unlocking the door and opening it for her. Mona grabbed her crutches then got out, waving goodbye for a while until Alex's car was out of sight. Mona made her way down the street, singing at the top of her lungs.
'The sun will come out tomorrow, ermm..tomorrow tomorrow ermm. Whatever.'
She hopped until she reached a bend, making her way there and walking over to the sewer lid. She kneeled down moving the lid to the side and dropping her crutches down the hole, before getting down herself. She found herself in Leo's arms and she screwed a face, jumping onto the floor, she grabbed her crutches, then hopped onto the sofa. Leo examined her carefully, finding her state amusing. Half of her left cup was showing, her maroon mini cocktail dress had rolled up so it sat just under her behind, but she had her heels on still and not a hair was out of place, so it couldn't have been drinking.
Mona sat up, pointing to behind Leo.
'Blue, when did you own a camel?'
Leo closed his eyes, huffing. Definitely not drinking. He walked over to her, sitting in the arm of the couch.
'Mona, you're high.'
'Then why am I so short?'
'Cute.'
Mona moved into a cross legged position, patting down the emptiness off the couch now suggesting for Leo to sit next to her. Leo took the hint, sliding into the seat.
'I was thinking. About my life.'
Leo's mouth twitched anxiously.
'Oh boy.'
'How does a girl go from having anything to like nothing? I had a great boyfriend, my best friends, I'm on the cheerleading squad, the athletic team, I had my flawless skin. Now, I have no boyfriend, lost most of my closest friends, and I can't do shit with one working leg and hand!'
Leo sat there speechless, staring at her chest. He snapped back into reality, turning away embarrassed. Mona cooed at him.
'You can loom at my boobs if you want. They look awesome today.'
Leo sniggered, hiding his mouth.
'No, you need to pull fix your dress.' He uttered awkwardly, moving his hand away from his mouth and laughing out loud. Mona grabbed his hand, using his finger to pull up her dress.
'That wasn't so hard.' She whispered, as Leo flushed red.
'I need to tell you a secret.'
Oh no.
'I can't go home like this! I'm stoned.' She whispered.
'You can crash here then.' He whispered back to her. He screwed his face, unsure on why they were whispering.
'And why are you even smoking? You're fifteen.'
Mona whined, playing with her hair.
'I didn't. I ate cupcakes. Leo the camel is right behind you.'
Leo ignored her camel comment, standing up and picking her up bridal style once again. They made his way to his room, closing the door with his foot and backing up into the light switch. He placed her in his bed, as she began to roll around on the matress
'Don't expect me to tuck you in.'
'Shut up Leo.'
Leo laughed gently, walking to the door.
'Night Mona.'
'Night Blue. Night Camel.'Mona crawled into the living room and hid behind the sofa, grabbing her crutches from under. She got up carefully, looking over at Leo and watching him sleep. He looked adorable, but she was so tempted to draw a penis on his face.
'You're that obsessed with him?'
Mona gasped, snapping her neck round to see Raph standing behind her. She scoffed, going into the kitchen as he followed her in there. Raph smirked, looking her up and down.
'You fell asleep in that?'
'I couldn't go home so I crashed here. Hope the side chick you were sleeping with last night was okay with another girl being here.' She snapped, sitting at the table.
'Can we not do this?'
'Do what?'
'Argue.'
'I'm pretty sure arguments means the other person actually has to say something, then that would mean I would have to listen to you.'
Raph clicked his tongue turning away in embarrassment. He didn't even have to look to know Mona enjoyed this, she loved torturing him.
Raph swallowed hard, walking to the fridge and passing Mona a Dr Pepper. She looked at him sincerely whilst she opened the can. She sipped slowly at the beverage, watching Raph sit opposite her.
'Mona, I feel like I should take this moment to, apologise.'
Mona choked on her drink, putting it down in front of her.
'Raphael apologising? That is rich.'
'No, I'm serious. I had never felt so bad about anything else in my life. And you probably find that hard to believe.'
'You read my mind.'
'Anyway, I'm sorry. Like, really sorry. I understand why you would want to spend the rest of your life viciously attacking me. And I won't even stop you.'
Mona smirked wickedly, leaning in closer to him. Her hand then struck at his face forcefully, his cheek rotating to the left side. He laughed, nodding slowly.
'Erm, okay I deserve that.' He agreed, looking back at her.
'Feel better.'
Mona shook her head, picking up her drink and throwing it in his face. Raph sat there blankly, the Dr Pepper dripping from his face onto the table.
'You gonna kick me in the nuts?'
'Can I?'
'I'd rather have you not.'
'You may have apologised but I'm still very tempted to serenade you with the shadiest song that comes to mind.'
Leo yawned, sauntering into the kitchen.
'I don't know about you guys-'
Leo paused, gazing Mona and Raph, whom were in the same and the both of them still alive. He moved his full attention to Raph, who was still soaked in soda.
'Erm. I don't know what's going on here, nor do I want to.'
Mona smiled lazily at Leo, finishing the rest if her drink before putting it in front her and rising from her seat.
'What time is it?'
Leo slid out his t-phone, looking on the screen.
'10 o'clock.'
Mona swore under her breath, scurrying out of the kitchen, Leo and Raph followed behind her, confused by the rush.
'What's the rush?' Leo questioned.
'My mom is coming home today and we're leaving once she gets home which is like 12:30 so I need to get ready which takes me like an hour and a half. I haven't even eaten! So Leo, don't stand there like an idiot and drive me home.!
Leo walked quickly, grabbing the Shellraiser keys as him and Mona headed out.
'I still can't believe you slept in those killer heels.' Leo pointed out, opening the door for her. She hopped into the front seat, shrugging.
'I'm a teenage girl from the Upper East Side, it's another one my amazing skills.'
Leo scoffed, beginning to drive. The journey was silent for a moment, until Leo spoke up,
'So, Victoria knows about us?'
'Yeah, she said she wouldn't tell anyone and I shockingly believe her.'
Leo coughed loudly, pulling a face.
'Seriously! Even after you found about her and Karai you still talk to her?'
'Well it's a good thing she came forward before you guys did.'
'Wow, you are confusing.'
Mona lifted her chin, staring at Leo suspiciously.
'What's that supposed to mean?'
Leo could feel her eyes glaring at him, making him feel uncomfortable.
'It means, you're hot and cold, black and white, I think you get the picture.'
Mona tutted, clicking her tongue as a sign on frustration.
'Examples?'
'Examples are that you forgave Victoria, but not April and Casey-'
'First of all, Victoria didn't keep something from me and April and Casey have kept secrets from twice in like two weeks.'
'Point provem, but the thing you are most confusing about is us.'
Mona rolled her eyes, groaning.
'Leo, I've told you, there is no us.'
'But you want there to be.'
Mona stayed silently briefly, staring the floor. She mumbled:
'That's not true.'
Leo quickly glanced at her chuckling.
'You're lying.'
'Am not.'
'Yes you are. When you lie your nose starts twitching everytime.'
Mona grunted, looking back up and staring out the window.
'You're insane.'
'Oh really.'
He looked back at her at a traffic light, tilting his head to see the side of her face better.
'Did you really like that Indiana Jones movie we watched two weeks ago?'
'Of course I did.' Mona moved her hand to cover her nose as she still looked out the window.
'See? You're lying. Mona, you can pretend all you want that you're over how you feel about me, but you're not.'
Mona rolled her eyes a second time, moving her hand away and facing the road again.
'Just drive.'
'So we're not even going to talk about.'
'I don't talk bullshit.'
Leo jeered, grinning widely.
'Leo, if I did have feelings for you, explain why I would make a deal to myself about staying single until I turn sixteen?'
'Because those 4 months until you're birthday you plan on provoking me until I give in.'
'Or maybe it has to do with the fact I have no idea who am I right now and it takes 4 months for a girl to find herself with being distracted by relationships.'
'You're in denial.'
'No I'm not! Why are you even so sure about all of these theories and assumptions?'
'Because I overheard your conversation when you were shopping and Friday night you said you were in love with me.'
Mona stammered, shocked at what she was hearing.
'What exactly did you overhear.'
'I dunno, ALL OF IT?'
Mona narrowed her eyes, making no eye contact.
'And I'm not going to sit here and pretend like nothing's happened overtime.'
'Really because you you're doing a damn good job.' Mona snapped.
Leo gulped.
'What do you mean?!
'You were right. I am lying about not having feelings for you but can you blame me? I mean, you tell me that would should stay friends, then you go all out and kiss me multiple times as if nothing ever happened. You know, that conversation you heard you clearly didn't hear all of it otherwise you would have heard Victoria tell me about how I shouldn't be so vulnerable and play this stupid game but I finally realised the only person I'm fooling is myself. So I'm done Leo. I'm done being a half couple like someone Real Housewife of New Jersey and her solicter. I have too much pride to be lead on and be okay with us not even going anyway.'
Leo sat there in silence, lost for words.
'I'm sorry you feel you feel that way.' He murmured.
Mona sniffled, playing with her thumbs.
'Me too.'
The rest of the journey they sat in silent. Every attempt of conversation Mona would cut off. Mona had been gazing out of the window, predicting everything which was going to appear on the next block. She widended her eyes when she saw a familiar face strolling down the Upper East Side, which also angered her, getting Leo to stop the van.
'I'll walk from here-'
'You sure? Because I can-'
'I said I'll walk. And by the way, if I was in love with you, I wouldn't be in love with the guy that's turned into his cocky brother, instead the guy who actually cared about my feelings.
Leo gritted his teet, pulling over on the sidewalk and unlocking the door. Mona left without saying goodbye, leaving Leo to watch her walk away.
Mona scurried after the girl walking down the streets, calling after her repeatedly.
'I know it's you.'
The girl stopped walking and turned on heels slowly. She gasped at the sight of Mona. She was half dolled up and using crutches. Guessing she became the new party girl or something. Mona moved closer, inches away from her.
'Dakota.' She snarled.
Dakota gulped, trying to avoid eye contact for her own safety.
'I thought I made it clear you don't come back.'
'I know but the thing is-'
'What? Don't tell me it's for one of the guys, because no one seemed so provoked by you leaving. It's obvious you're not wanted.' She snapped.
Dakota frowned, playing with the ends of her hair.
'My mom's in trouble. You're not going to stop me from seeing her. Whatever you wouldn't understand.' She protested with confidence although she was honestly terrified. She couldn't physically attack her in her condition, didn't me she couldn't verbally. Mona slowly nodded sort of understanding her situation.
'Okay. But you better be gone soon. And not show you're face in the Upper East Side. I'll know if you do and you've known me long enough to know I don't like being deceived.' She threatened. She turned away walking in the opposite direction.
Dakota watched her leave before making her own way home.
