'Knock knock! It's April.'
Mona groaned, reluctantly letting her in. Her eyes were fixed on her laptop screen, focused on a video she was watching. The bed she sat on was bombarded by a fallen pile of papers and books. April entered, sitting on the spinning chair by her makeup desk.
'What you up to?'
'Homework.'
April sniggered, looking at the laptop screen curiously.
'Watching people from Chicago dance is your homework? What class are you taking?' She asked sarcastically. Mona would reply with an equally sarcastic comeback but she let it slide this one time.
Mona paused the video, slamming the laptop down and looking sharply at April.
'Dear god, you look like you haven't slept in days.' And she wasn't wrong. Mona had lost the twinkle in her eyes when she wasn't wearing her contacts and faint circles hung under them.
Mona swallowed hard, thinking off the best excuse.
'I've just been really busy.'
'With what?'
'So before Leo comes. I got the boys the best birthday present ever!' She squealed, jumping in her seat.
April grinned at her enthusiasm but unsure of how quickly it just came into her.
'A joint present? What is it?'
'Okay so you know my uncle Jackson?'
'Yeah?'
'Well-'
She cut herself off when she heard a knock at the window. April smirked teasingly at Mona.
'Your Prince Charming is here.' She joked.
Mona narrowed her eyes at her.
'Shut up. Go open it up for him.'
April hit her playfully as she walked to the window, opening the latch and letting Leo in.
Leo jumped onto the bed, landing on the pile of work.
'Get of those!' Mona exclaimed, giving him a hard shove as a result of him rolling onto the floor. Leo scowled lightly at her, helping himself back on his feet.
'Wow thanks for that. Now what the heck have you been doing you've bailed on us three times now.'
'Yeah, did you completely forget about our binge watching Netflix tradition?' April added.
Mona mocked them, laughing afterwards.
'Guys. I love you. And as I much as I love to hang out I just have a lot on my plate. Recently, my dance studio were one of the 10 states chosen to compete in this huge competition and the winning state gets to be the featured dancers in a new video game.'
April stammered in amazement, jumping out her seat in excitement for her.
'That's great! I-'
'I'm not done. Luckily Vic joined the advanced group this year so we can scrap the fundraising for plane tickets to LA. But now I'm co-captain of my troupe, meaning I need to think of 2 choreography routines and an additional one because I was chosen to perform in the duet competition. And let's not forget how now I'm captain of the Roosevelt Cheerleading squad so I need to help with the pep rally and let's not also forget how in just a month I'm going to be celebrating my Sinfully Sweet Sixteen and seeing it's going to be the biggest party of the year I need to perfect every single detail. So yeah, sorry I can't hang out.' She apologised bluntly. April gritted her teeth when she looked at an irritated Leo.
Mona cooed at him, squeezing his cheeks when he sat next to her.
'Aw, don't be mad. Besides, it's not like I'm going to miss celebrating you guys' birthday. Lou Lou's turning seventeen. I think I"m going to cry.' She said in a vague sobbing voice.
'It's no big deal. It's not like Mikey's ever going to grow up so at least you still have that going.'
April laughed at this as well Mona. Despite April putting an end to her hysteria, Mona continued to laugh for an unsettling few minutes. April widened her eyes, her and Leo exchanging weird looks.
'You are hilarious.' Mona said as soon as she calmed down.
Leo stammered, mystified at Mona's behaviour.
'Why am I actually here?'
Mona thought for a while, eventually having no answer.
'I don't actually know. I guess I could have some company. I'm not completely deprived from you guys.'
'Are you drunk?'
Mona and Leo shot April a bewildered look when she made that assumption.
Mona gritted her teeth at her, shaking her head.
'Okay, since when have I ever gotten drunk?' She argued.
'Didn't you at that yacht party?'
'No! No! Funny story actually, the twins banned people from bringing any sort of drugs, so some hippies hid them in cupcakes, which I was unaware of. I spent the rest of weekend being seriously confused.' Mona soon dazed off into her own atmosphere. Leo waved his hand in front of her face until she grabbed one of his fingers.
'Oh wow. You're boiling hot.' He stated in shock. He briefly put a pal against her face before jolting his hand away.
'Do you have a fever?!'
'Shut up Leo. I'm fine! You guys are treating me like some baby. Not the first time.'
April dipped her head backwards, mouthing a scream noise when Mona wasn't looking.
'I'm heading out. Leo, you coming?'
Leo looked over at Mona, nodding as he got up and crawled half way out the window.
'Wait!'
Leo and April glanced over at her blankly, unable to think of anything stupid or plain random she could say.
'I shall hang out tomorrow. After school. Promise.' She batted her eyes at them innocently.
Leo and April were unconvinced but still went along with it.
'Fine. See you then.' April mumbled, going out the window after Leo.
The two of them sprinted on to the building rooftop, admiring the city view whilst they were there. April gazed over at Leo, raising an eyebrow at him as she also folded her arms.
'Okay, where the hell is she going to get crack from?'
Leo squealed, taking a step back from her.
'Okay, please don't do that mind reading thing. It's still super freaky.'
April mocked him, sitting on the edge of the roof and swinging her legs.
'Oh come one. You've seen man eating plants and walking, ass-kicking tigers and you're scared over me being able to read every Mona Stockman fetish that possesses your brain?'
Leo nodded, laughing at how ridiculous it made him seen.
'Maybe I making a big deal over nothing. Probably just...anxiety.' He debated with himself.
'Ha! Mona and anxiety? You clearly don't know her very well.'
Leo grinned sinfully as he sat beside her snd watched the day cycle of The Upper East Side.
'Don't be so sure about that.'
April stared long and hard at him, then gasped, giving him a repulsed look.
'What the hell Leo! Aren't you supposed to be the good guy?!'
Leo squeezed his eyes shut, blushing hard.
'Let's just not talk about it.'
'Yeah I'd rather not know what goes on in the sheets.'
'Okay. Okay. No. I don't need someone else judging me.'
'I'm not judging!' April defended, clutching her chest at this accusation.
'Wait I am. Aww, you are growing up! I think I might cry.' She teased, wiping away the fake tears from under her eyes.
Leo nudged her playfully.
'I'll never understand why I got involved with you Upper East Side girls.'
'Neither will I.'
