Casey trudged beside Mona and April as they made they way down the hall, observing Mo as she handed out birthday invites. His eyebrows sank as he looked down on the pile in her grasp, confused on how it hadn't moved.
'How many people did you invite?!'
'214.'
'Typical. Guessing you didn't make them yourself.'
Mona sniggered, stopping at the cafeteria.
'Duh. I just paid two freshmen in art club to do the envelopes.'
April hooted, gripping her shoulder.
'Mona Elise Stockman. Inspiration to girls everywhere.'
A smile broadened upon Mo's face, even though she spotted the hint of sarcasm in April's voice. She looked over at centre table to see Victoria surrounded by wannabes as they praised her, her frown dropping to a scowl. Victoria noticed this from the distance, giving Mo a shady look before turning away. She took a step forward until she was held back by both arms.
'We let you go over there, something bad'a bound to happen.' Casey informed.
Mona grinned at her friends, gripping tighter onto the invites.
'You have to stand by my side while I hand out invitations?'
Casey and April exchanged suspicious glances, before releasing her and walking over to the table.
Mona stood right at the front of the table as Casey and April stood a reasonable distance away, waiting for the potential cue time of having to pry Mona off Vic's corpse. Mona cleared her throat, doing her charming angelic pose.
'Hi everyone. As you may know it's my birthday and if you didn't it's either because you're a foreign exchange student or you just been asleep for three years and happened to wane up this very day. Anyway, being sixteen won't last forever and I plan on celebrating my new found adulthood fabulously alongside me my amazing undergraduates until October 27th 2016.' The people at the table cheered as Mona began to toss around the invites. She gave Victoria a wink before linking arms with April and sitting at the table near to the middle.
Impressed, Casey gave Mona props for her maturity.
'I'm impressed. Maybe you have changed.'
'Because I have. I mean I have nothing to hide. I figured blondie was going to be back eventually and spill some things about me to everyone, so I just came out.'
Mona noticed the puzzled gazes she was getting, so continued in more detail.
'I stood in front of the whole year and just said; 'hey, I'm bipolar, so what's for lunch?' I knew my whole life here was on the line, however people were fine about it, though at first people did treat me differently. They didn't want to say the wrong thing because they would think I would just have a meltdown or something lime that, but it's alright now. Some people like me better than before.'
The trio were approached by an upperclassmen the same size as Mona and who's face was peppered with ginger freckles all over.
'Erm, Mona?'
Mona looked up, cupping her head in her hand and tilting it to the side.
'Yes?'
'I just want to say, you're an inspiration to all the girls in this school.'
April exaggerated her cough, wrapping her head round the coincidence.
Mona beamed at the girl, her eyes glowing brighter than ever.
'Well, thank you. Some though may disagree.'
'Who cares? Even though you suffer from a mental illness , you overcome that and still manage to be cheer captain, reigning Homecoming Queen who's best friends with the King, and look beautiful as you accomplish so much. I wish I could graduate being an icon such as yourself.'
Casey bit his tongue so hard, nearly cutting if off as he tried to resist bursting into laughter.
Mona got up, resting her palms on the girl's shoulders.
'What's your name?'
'Erm, A-Alexa White?'
'Well Alexa White. You don't want to graduate like me, it takes a lot of work to get to where I am. I haven't been completely honest with everyone. I still have trouble finding myself but I still feel complete at the same time. But no matter how long it takes to find out yourself, don't forget where you're coming from, you'd want to thank that later on.'
Mona glanced over at the pile of invitations, picking on up and placing it in her hand. Alexa looked down on it, laughing nervously.
'This said it's for Delilah Gomez...'
'She's annoying. You have it instead.'
'But I'm only a sophomore.'
'No buts! One key tip when it comes to finding yourself is finding out how hard you party. I better see you Saturday.'
The girls squealed in excitement, her freckles darkening as she glowed red and skipped away. Mona sat back down, moving her head back when April and Casey gave her uncomfortable stares.
'What?'
April huffed, putting her hands in surrender.
'I stand corrected.'
'Yeah, I knew there was some crazies here, but ooh! Then you invite her to your party?!'
Mona shrugged, crossing her arms.
'It felt like the right thing to do.'
'Mason alert.' April warned without having to turn around. The freshman swiped an invite from the pile, waving it in the air and cackling. Mona got up, grabbing Mason's collar and lifting his in the air.
'I don't see your name on this.' She retrieved the envelope back, putting the scrawny boy down violently. Mason pretended to feel frightened, hiding behind his group of friends who were casually laughing along.
'Ooh bipolar girl's going to go all Death Star on me.' He teased, moving in front again. Mona flared her nostrils, putting a hand on her hip.
'Excuse me?'
'You heard. You pretend to be normal but your a freak. Guess 'time of month' is not a valid excuse for crazy cheerleader anymore.'
'Listen here you fu-'
'What did you just say to my sister?!' Bellowed an enraged Leo who stood in front of Mona.
Mason took a step back, beginning to look innocent.
'Relax, it was just a joke.'
'That what the doctor told your parents?!' The boy quickly retorted, before Mason took a hard slam to his jaw. Mason grabbed the side of his face, yelling in agony.
'That wasn't half of what you deserve.' Spat Leo, kicking his knee before walking off with his friends in senior year. Shocked, Mona looked down at the boy still in pain. She giggled, crouching down and gazing deviously.
'I'm guessing you're still mad that I made out with your sister.'
She picked up the invites and sauntered off without saying a word, then was quickly accompanied by her friends who were still trying to process what they saw.
'Mo! Your brother could get suspended for that.' April argued.
'Yeah! We get it's your 'birthweek' and all, but that was some crazy shit! And then he walks off with guys twice hus height! Why are you not reacting?'
She stopped walking when she got to her locker, opening it and putting the invitations at the back.
She leaned against it, letting it close by itself.
'Because I don't care. Leo's a big boy now with big boy friends, who he knows because he got onto the football team and his middle school friends have siblings that go here. I trust him, he's my brother. What's done is done. It's okay.'
April paced back and forth in a small circle, guttered at Mo's calamity.
'I'm I weird for thinking that you and Leo have switched personalities. I mean, all the time you spend together is really rubbing off.'
Mona snorted, rolling her eyes.
'That Kraang DNA must be starting to kick in cos bitch you crazy.'
Casey snapped his fingers,
laughing absentmindedly.
'Aaaaand she's back.'
