'Perfect. Just perfect.' Mona admired her work for her Homecoming Queen campaign poster with a satisfied smirk on her face. She dialled her dad's work number as she propped up from her bed and made her way downstairs with the poster in her free hand. The number went to voicemail, and she sucked on her teeth and shoved her phone down her jeans pocket. She entered the kitchen and grabbed her bag in the corner, shoving the poster down at the bottom of it. The house was empty, so very silent. Dad was at work til late, Leo was either in detention or at football and mom wasn't coming back home for another hour. But Mona wasn't one of those kids who was always lonely, and even if she was the only person home, she knew she had people she could count on. Well, one for sure, she began to have doubts about the rest. She heard a tapping on the door. She squealed and dropped her bag as she turned around to see it was just Leo. She sighed in relief as she opened the door for him.
'Gave you a start.'
'Duh. And I'm still impressed by the fact you can get here so quickly ame often seeing I live on the 45th floor of this building. But I guess you need the exercise.' She teased, grinning.
'I haven't seen you since Monday, but I see your point. And why do I have a feeling I'm interrupting something?' He questioned, referring to the bag on her floor.
Mona looked over her shoulder and shrugged, leaning against the counter.
'I was just heading over to Stark, so I can make at least 100 copies of my campaign poster. I kinda plan on winning homecoming queen.' She hinted sarcastically before giggling at her own comment.
Leo nodded slowly.
'Then I guess I should head off.' He pivoted his body but felt her grip on his arms
'Wait.'
Leo huffed slowly then rotated his head.
'Yeah?'
Mona let go off home then sat on a spinny stool behind her.
'Sit.'
Leo did as he was told, feeling uneasy about what was going to happen.
Mona laughed nervously, tucking her hair behind her ear.
'Wow, this is seriously weird for me, but I'm just going to go out with it. Ever since Monday, I actually couldn't stop thinking about you, well us to be precise, but I'm not sure, if there is an us, but I know I want there to be and everything has been stressful and confusing in life, but, how I feel about you is the only thing right now that I'm sure about.' She inhaled deeply at the end, closing her eyes as she waited for a response.
Leo had waited for this day for a long time, he thought that this is where he would swing her in her arms and just laugh together, well it wasn't like that. At all.
'Mona, I'm pretty sure you don't understand how much this pains for me to say this, especially when I feel the same way, but, we can't. You might be sure, but deep inside your still awfully confused.'
Mona looked up and stared at him in shock.
'And why's that?' She choked.
'You got out of a relationship and dealt with it in not the best way, you're still hurting, you don't need to rush into anything to feel something again.'
Mona frowned at this.
'What's with the change of heart? It was no secret that have wanted to be with me for while Leo.' She protested.
'I saw it. The video.'
Mona's mouth dropped open, as she stood up. She turned away, and buried her face with her hands.
Leo got up and stood in front of her, kneeling lower so he could see her face.
'Hey.' He said in almost a whisper. Mona moved her hands from her now red face, wiping away stained tears.
'God, I just. There's a reason I didn't tell anyone not even you the full story. I honestly had no idea what came over me that night, but I try to move on from it, and the only way I needed to do that is by you telling me that it's okay.' She said between cries. She rubbed her eyes before continuing.
'But I see why you don't want anything to do with me now. I'm a mess.' She stared at the floor, playing with her thumbs. It ached for Leo to see her in such a state, Raph would be awful under all this pressure.
Leo wiped tears off her face, giving her a weak smile.
'You're not a mess. I mean, anyone who was a mess wouldn't be able to come back to school try and move on and campaign for Homecoming Queen. And of course I still want to be close with you, but at the same time keep my distance, just so you can find yourself again, nothing's changed between us okay?'
She nodded as she sniffles
'Thank you Leo, I honestly don't know what I could do without you.' She said, pulling him into an embrace.
Leo chuckled as his head was buried in her hair.
'Ditto.'
