Finding the others wasn't too hard. Daryl remembered the map well, but they also heard gunshots, and knew that was probably them.

What they found was the other end of the train that they were in. They could hear walkers and shotguns, and a loud banging. Probably someone trying to get through a rusted door.

Sami ran forward, as Daryl told Dog to stay, and saw walkers stumbling after the sound, too. So, he pulled out his knives.

Cutting down walkers felt almost freeing at this point. He knew what he was doing. Daryl was there. God, he wished things could just be this uncomplicated all the time. Just cut and stab all his problems.

He got through one compartment, then the next. At the end of the second, was a chair pushed up against a door, where Negan's face could be seen through the window. The thought of leaving him crossed his mind, but that's all it did. the others were there.

He pulled hte chair away, and then him and Negan pulled the rusted door open, and the group rushed through.

Daryl cut down a walker that was behind Sami, and then pulled out the grenade. "Get behind something!"

They did as he said, and Daryl shoved the grenade in a walker's mouth, before shoving him back into the others and slamming the door shut.

The explosion silenced the growls, and shook the entire train. Sami could hear even through the door the wet squelch of meat hitting the windows.

There was silence, for a moment, aside from the panted breaths of the group. Everyone seemed to still be there, aside from Gage, who was gone before Sami left the group.

But then the sound of more walkers growling reached their ears.

"C'mon." Sami got to his feet, and made his way out of the train. "They'll be attracted to the sound. We've got a few second opening."

They got moving, again. Negan stayed quiet. As did Grace. Daryl, however, kept casting side-eyes as Sami. He wasn't entirely sure why.

The storm stopped at some point, as when they reached the exit to the tunnels, a giant hole in the ceiling showed them the stars, high above them.

Everyone slowed down. Sitting, just breathing. Taking a moment to gather themselves in the quiet before they continued on to war.

Sami looked up at the stars, thinking of how strange it was that it's always the same stars he's looked upon since he was a child. The one thing that tied him to every person to ever exist.

God, he was tired.

He felt a tap on his leg, and saw Maggie holding out some bar to him.

He shook his head. "Nah. Not hungry."

"Gotta eat."

He flicked his hand. "Give it to someone who's on the verge of killing for food."

"Speaking of food . . . " She got to her feet, speaking louder so that the others could hear. "we've got to take a detour. Arbor hills."

"What's there?" Daryl asked.

"Hidden supply depot. Georgie set them up all over in case we ran into any trouble looking for survivors. Has ammo, food, weapons. Rest up there and then head to Meridian. Radio tower marks that neighborhood. You know where that is?" She looked at Negan.

"Yeah. Come on." Negan made his way up the stairs to the road, and everyone else followed.

Sami didn't like how many of them there were. They walked the streets, since that was what Negan knew. Him and Grace seemed to have had an argument at some point, walking as far from each other as they could, but Sami didn't dig any deeper.

He kept almost coughing again, though the cold, damp night air made his breathing better. It felt just . . . weird. So, he kept drinking his water, which was probably stupid. Just sipping, and then the cough would go, and come back a few minutes later. but he wouldn't cough. It would just expose their position to to many things. They didn't know what was out here.

The first thing they found wrong was hanging bodies. Fresh bodies, hung from their feet along the side of the road. Every meter or so.

"Well, this place has sure gone to shit since I was last here." Negan stopped, looking at the bodies.

The moon illuminated the crest of the road, far ahead of them, making the bodies further down just silhouettes, the woods on either side pitch black. Sami counted the bodies on one side - about fifteen. With the stands they were hanging from being so organized, probably meant there were about thirty bodies. Considering how deserted this place was, it was probably a hassle.

"Let's double back." Grace said.

Negan nodded. "we can cut throug-"

Before he could finish, the sound of an arrow reached their ears, and Roy, an arrow in his eye, yelled and fell to the ground.

A knife then flew towards them, embedding itself in Cole's leg, and cutting off his hand.

Everyone ran to cover, as Joel and Frost grabbed Cole, pulling him behind cover, too, and more arrows and knives flew through the air.

And ahead of them, their attackers.

Masked and cloaked, the group seemed to appear out of nowhere, as now they were filling the entirety of the street in front of where they had been.

The masks were detailed, different from person to person, and there were at least two dozen of them. In all black, assault gear and long coats, hoods pulled over their heads.

Sami thought that they put too much into their appearance.

Then everything went to shit.

He ran from tree to tree, staying ducked behind it, but then the knives and arrows flew around him.

Alden, slammed against a tree as a knife appeared in his arm.

Daryl, ducking out of the way as a knife flew past his face.

Duncan, screaming at them to run, as a knife hit his shoulder, and then his stomach.

Cole, his head grabbed and throat slit.

It was too dark to see where the knives were coming from, or where people were vanishing to.

Sami got a knife in the thigh, and yelled, pulling it out and seeing a black blur in the trees nearby. He threw it, and heard a yell as the blur fell.

He pulled out his own knife, running at one of the people about to throw a rope around Maggie, slitting a tendon before slitting his neck, making the body fall.

A knife flew through the air, tearing his cheek, making him hiss, and they took the opportunity.

First, a knife his his arm, then someone appeared behind him. He swung around, swinging his knife and managing to cut their leg, but it wasn't enough.

The screams had stopped around him. Was everyone dead? Or gone?

Someone else wrapped a rope around Sami's neck, holding tight. He swung his knife back, stabbing them in the leg, but another slit his elbow through his coat, making the knife drop.

He reached for his other knife, but a knife went through his hand, sticking it to his thigh instead.

He wasn't sure if he kept fighting. He hoped so.

But at some point, it all went dark.

Thanks for all the love for this recently, and for 15K! That's honestly insane. Anyway, thank you, hope you enjoy, and sorry for what Sami's gonna put up with in the next few chapters
