136: ʜᴏʀɴꜱʙʏ

They had to kill Hornsby. It was the only way to get away. 

He was searching everywhere for them, and they could only assume he'd taken Hilltop. So they had to take out his people. The soldiers. One by one. He would be easy, as slippery as he is. 

Grace and Negan had joined them, and Danny had cleaned up most of the blood on himself. Now, in the town, it was easier to watch than the woods. They'd lead them here, and they'd kill them here.

"Can we go back to the Commonwealth?" Danny signed, looking at Grace, Gabriel, Daryl, Aaron, Negan and Maggie, as they stood in an old garage, Daryl watching the soldiers outside. "Get out people out of there, first? We've always been stronger together."

"No." Aaron shook his head. "Dan, he probably already radioed back, you know that. Look, he knows us. We're never getting through those checkpoints."

"But our families. They've got no idea anything's wrong until he sends people after them."

"Carol's there. So is Rosita and Sami, Jerry, Ezekiel. We have to hope they can handle it."

"Sami can't handle anything when my niece is involved."

"He's right." Gabriel said. "And the longer we're out here, having these debates, the longer our families are at risk."

"Our people are out here, too." Maggie said. "We need to find Hornsby and kill him before he gets to anybody."

"Wait, hold up, hold up." Daryl walked forward. "We can do all of this. They've never seen your faces before." He pointed at Negan and Grace."

"Right, you saying we just walk right on in there?" Negan asked. 

"Yeah. That's exactly what I'm saying."

"Not you." Negan turned to Grace. "Only one of us needs to go into the belly of the beast. I need you to be safe."

Danny almost puked and turned to look at Daryl. He had a large scar down his face, now, that he didn't have before he vanished into the woods a few years back. He wondered what that was from.

Getting Negan a ride to the Commonwealth wasn't too hard. Danny shot a few walkers on the street, which attracted the soldiers, who rolled up in two cars. One car, Danny shot everyone inside and hid behind with Daryl to take the other out, and the other Negan climbed into and drove off as fast as he could towards the Commonwealth. 

Now, it was just a case of keeping Hornsby from his radio.

He tried setting it up by where the car had been stolen, but Daryl and Danny camped there, shooting the man setting it up and then getting Hornsby in the shoulder.

Danny ducked behind the car as one soldier kept shooting, and a walkie on the ground told Daryl that Negan had been spotted. As he tried to come up with a plan, Danny ducked down onto  the ground and climbed under the car, shooting the final soldier by Hornby in the face, before climbing back out before the other soldiers spotted him.

"If they have Negan, Hornsby's car works." Danny signed. 

Daryl looked from him to the car for a moment, before pointing at it with his chin. "Go."

They snuck, carefully, around the cars as the soldiers gained on their original spot, moving with them to stay out of sight, but once they climbed into the car, Danny realized he was on the wrong side and went to switch with Daryl, only to be shot at.

"Just start it! Turn the key, press the thing!"

Danny somehow did as he said, and they were speeding down the street, almost running over a few soldiers as the back of the window was shot out, and they followed the same way Negan went.
