The air was thick with the scent of pine and earth as Jeonghan walked through the forest, his mind in a daze.
The pack had settled into a fragile stability under his temporary leadership, but the scars of abandonment by their previous Alpha still lingered.
He reached the edge of the clearing where the pack often met. Joshua, Minghao, and Dino were already there, their den being the closet to the meeting spot.
Jeonghan joined them, and before long, Wonwoo and Mingyu arrived, followed by Vernon and Seungkwan.
And lastly, Jun, Hoshi, Woozi and Dk joined them. Jeonghan straightened, ready to address the news had summoned them here tonight.
"Thank you all for coming," Jeonghan began, his voice steady. "We have an important matter to discuss."
"What's going on Jeonghan?" Joshua asked, sensing the Beta's nerves
Jeonghan took a deep breath, steadying himself. "We've received word from the council. They've chosen a new leader for our pack."
A ripple of reactions swept through the group. Jeonghan could also see Mingyu's jaw tighten at the news.
"Who is it?" Minghao asked
"His name is Seungcheol," Jeonghan replied. "He's an Alpha and the council believes he has the strength and experience to lead us."
Seungkwan couldn't hold back his skepticism. "And why should we trust him? Our last leader left us." He pointed out.
"Boo." Hansol sighed as he placed an arm on the olders shoulder.
Jeonghan met Seungkwan's gaze, understanding his doubts. "I know it's hard to trust again. But we can't continue without a proper leader. I've done my best, but we need someone who can take us further."
Mingyu's voice was low, almost a growl. "What if he's no different? What if he abandons us too?" He asked.
Jeonghan sighed, feeling the weight of their fears and frustrations. "I can't promise you he won't. But we have to give him a chance. We owe it to ourselves to try."
Joshua placed a hand on Jeonghan's shoulder. "You've held us together Jeonghan. We'll stand with you in this decision." Joshua said, looking at the other Omegas who nodded.
Jeonghan nodded, grateful for their support. "Thank you. Seungcheol will be here tomorrow morning and I will meet him first before I introduce him to you-" Jeonghan started.
"Me and Mingyu will go with you." Wonwoo cut in.
"I'm sure that's not necessary, I can handle myself." Jeonghan said.
"I wasn't offering Jeonghan. We are going with you." Wonwoo said.
"Fine." Jeonghan gave in, not due to forced submission, but because he didn't see the need to start an argument over this.
The group fell silent afterwards, the tension in the air palpable.
Jeonghan hoped that Seungcheol would be the leader they needed, someone who could rebuild their trust and guide them.
As the moonlight shined down on them, Jeonghan was the last one to arrive back at the Beta den.
Preparing himself for the meeting that would determine the future of their pack.
