The city Beomgyu lived in had a population of 40,000. Not so big to where it felt like a metropolis yet not so small to where everyone knows everyone. The perfect size.

At least that's what Beomgyu thought until he started seeing Kai everywhere he went. No matter what lengths he took to avoid him, he always saw him at least once a week. Most recently was at an indie concert he was sure Kai had no interest in going to. Oddly enough, the blonde didn't seem to notice him back. Either that or he didn't care. Beomgyu cared. He hated seeing him because of how badly he wanted him.

The first thing he wanted was forgiveness. Normal people would take a good night's sleep to get over a rejection to a heartfelt apology. He didn't and always seeing Kai didn't help.

The second thing he wanted was him. Beomgyu wasn't the type to sleep around but it became a sort of drug. Someone wanting him for a night became a cheap replacement for the only person he wanted but couldn't have. He couldn't stop.

Tonight, he wanted his fix. Some guy at the other end of the bar was eyeing him. That guy was good enough so he went for it. While they made out, he made the mistake of looking up when he heard something by the door. There Kai was staring right back at him. The blonde rolled his eyes and walked out. Beomgyu felt horrible so he ran after him. "KAI! WAIT!"

Kai pretended to not hear him and kept walking.

"I KNOW YOU CAN HEAR ME KAI!" Beomgyu grabbed the blonde's shoulder and forcefully turned him around. "WHAT IS YOUR PROBLEM?!"

"I can't get you out of my fucking life! That's my problem!"

"AND YOU WANNA KNOW WHAT MY PROBLEM IS?!" Beomgyu sincerely hated how hot Kai looked when he was mad. "YOU! MY PROBLEM IS YOU!"

"REALLY?!" Kai became very conscious that they were in public when people started looking at them. He tried walking away again until Beomgyu had a death grip on his wrist. "Let. Me. Go."

"NO!" Beomgyu heavily debated on kissing him. He would've if he thought he wouldn't have ended up at the hospital if he did. "HEAR ME OUT AT LEAST!"

"I FORGAVE YOU A MONTH AGO! WHAT MORE DO YOU WANT?!"

Beomgyu couldn't take the stares anymore. "Can we go somewhere in private? Please?"

"Why? The people making you uncomfortable?"

"A little! Yeah!"

"This is how I felt in high school except you and your pathetic friends were beating the shit out of me."

Beomgyu moved his hand from his wrist to his palm. Kai tried to pull away but he didn't let him. "I am NOT the same person as I was five years ago. Give me one date. Please."

"No."

"Kai..."

"No! Why do you want me so badly?! No one fucking did! No one does!" Kai snatched his hand away and wished this argument was in private like the older suggested. "I thought things would get better after high school but they didn't Beomgyu. I couldn't talk to anyone without thinking they hated me. That's what you did to me. I'm so fucked up..."

"You're so beautiful Kai."

"Stop."

Beomgyu held the younger's cheek and searched his eyes. "I'm serious. I can't seem to stay away from you and I don't want to either."

"All the guys you've slept with in the past month beg to differ."

"Jealous?" Beomgyu grabbed Kai's hand again when the blonde started to leave. "It was a joke. I'm sorry..."

"It's fine."

"One date. Please? If it doesn't go well, I swear I'll never bother you again. I'll even move!"

"I'm not going to make you move."

"I won't have to. I know this will go well if you go into it with an open mind."

Kai involuntarily smiled when he scoffed from how confident the older seemed. "Open mind huh?"

"Yup! Just pretend we've never met before. You'll get to see the new me! The Beomgyu that isn't a jackass and is actually comfortable with who he is! What do you say? Please?"

Beomgyu's puppy eyes were becoming very hard to ignore. Kai kept thinking of high school as a shield from the possibility of being vulnerable with someone. In the back of his mind, he assumed this was still a twisted joke; like the moment he'd say "yes", a bunch of people would come out to pull a cruel prank on him.

"Kai? Please?" Beomgyu saw the blonde's eyes dart back and forth. It was obvious he was searching through his memories and he wanted him to stop. "I really do like you. I think you're attractive. I want to undo all the damage I've done. I want to make you feel like you're valued. Give me the chance."

"You seriously like me that much?"

"I really do."

"Fine. One date. I'm free tonight if you are."

"Tonight?!"

Kai crossed his arms in front of his chest. "Is that a problem?"

"No! Not a problem!" Beomgyu actually had a date tonight with a guy he hooked up with once. He quickly whipped out his phone to cancel on him. "There. No problem at all."

Kai peaked over to see what the older did. "Did you just cancel a date?"

"Yeah? So?"

"We could've-"

"-no! I've been waiting for this since I first saw you at that bar!"

"I assume you have something planned then?"

"Sure don't!"

"Beomgyu. We can switch-"

"-I'll figure it out! Don't cancel on me! Please! I swear you'll have a great time!"

Kai ran his fingers through his hair. A nervous habit he picked up in college when he was flirted with for the first time. "Um. Okay? I'll be at that bar around six then. See you tonight."

"I'll see you tonight!" Beomgyu walked away, silently panicking from trying to think of a decent first date. His first date with his first ever boyfriend was a cute little bowling session. That seemed fine until he thought of his head being bashed in with a bowling ball by the blonde for being a bully.

Another date idea was watching a movie but that seemed too basic. "Netflix and chill" was a classic until he worried Kai would get the wrong idea. He didn't want a one night stand with him. He wanted him.

The last idea he could come up with was going to an amusement park together. There was something about being trapped in one large area that appealed to him. Kai couldn't easily get away and there would also be plenty of distractions for small talk incase the conversations were awkward. It was a no brainer. The more he thought about it, the more he loved it.

Beomgyu had never been so nervous for a date in his life. It had to go perfectly. This had to be his fresh start. The fact that he kept seeing Kai everywhere he went, felt like a sign from the universe. He was listening to it. He only hoped that Kai was too.
