My lip quivers as my body remains frozen.

The group of men at the door capture the guy holding the gun.

Peter, Sofia and that familiar guy help Vante by the window.

Right, the window...

I don't even wanna think about it anymore. And thankfully I won't have to because another wave of pain hits me.

I wince at first, not wanting to make a sound. I just want to crawl into a hole and never come back out.

"D-doctor..." I whisper with my eyes still shut tight. I grip the rails of the bed with all the might I have left in me. "How many centimetres?"

The doctor walks around the bed to inspect my dilation. She gives a firm nod when she's done assessing everything.

"Five centimetres, Mrs Riccardo. You're making steady progress." She praises me.

A group of more doctors rush into the room as the group of armed men are sent out, the doctors surround Vante and Sofia makes her way back to me with Peter.

"My love, how are you feeling?" Sofia takes my hand to gently caress it. Peter looks towards me with hopeful yet guilty eyes.

"Like shit," I reply just seconds before the pain gets increasingly worse. "It's hurting more..."

"They can't give you more sedatives, babes. It's too dangerous. You'll have to get through this..." she encourages me. "We're here for you, okay?"

I give a slight nod. "But they've gotta go,"

I gesture to the group of new doctors who turn towards me like meerkats with wide, guilty eyes.

"No excuses." I conclude.

"B-but Mrs Riccardo...we can't leave Mr Riccardo unattend—"

"What did I say?" I ask genuinely.

The doctor shuts his mouth and they all scramble to leave the room.

"Andrew...help Vante..." I instruct and he obliges. Andrew helps Vante up, guiding him to the door but Vante stops him.

"I'm not going anywhere." Vante states. "I'm staying here."

I shake my head 'no' but he limps his way towards me. He stares me dead in the eyes but I break the contact, shutting my eyes as tears stream down my face.

It feels like I've cried rivers since I woke up.

"You're not..." I cry out in a small voice. I bring my hands to my face to wipe the tears off my cheeks.

But I'm stopped when Vante places his fingers under my chin, making me look up at him. He wipes away my tears with his thumbs.

"I'm staying here," he repeats. "I'm not leaving you, Delilah."

He looks so deep into my eyes and soul. He traps me in his gaze, his guilty and sorry gaze.

He makes his point of staying by me.

But he can't. It's only dangerous for him. For the baby.

Yet, he doesn't care.

"I'm staying by you and only you. You're not doing this alone. I won't allow it." He whispers before he wraps his arms around me, embracing me so tightly as if he's scared I'll slip away.

And I'm just as scared he'll slip away. I return his embrace, sliding my arms around him and gripping onto his clothes.

I feel myself sniffing and sobbing. Breaking down in his arms and only holding on to him tighter.
