"Mrs Riccardo, good morning," a man greets as he enters the room. He's tall with dark hair and his bright green eyes greet mine. "You must be excited to finally be going home."
A charming grin spreads across his features and it has me returning it once his straight white teeth are exposed.
"Well, the furthest I've been from this hospital in a week was the playground. Excited is quite the understatement...doctor?" I reply in a sarcastic yet humorous tone which earns a hearty chuckle from the man.
"Doctor Leonardo De Luca. I've just returned from my holiday, I apologise for not being here while you went through your labour," he says with regret to his tone.
I shake my head. "It's no worry at all. Your team did wonderfully, Doctor. Also...your name tells me you're Italian," I note aloud.
He nods sheepishly as he makes his way to the bed, getting himself a chair in the process. "My coworkers love calling me Capo. Which is Italian for b—"
"Boss!" I exclaim with pride. "It's like the first Italian word I learnt from my husband."
The doctor raises his brows and nods in approval. "A woman of culture, I see,"
"I do hope so," I joke back, calming down as I notice Romeo getting restless in my arms.
"Just a few questions before we do 'set you free', Mrs Riccardo. Firstly, did you enjoy your stay at the hospital? Everything was up to standard?"
I give a small nod, but Romeo catches my eye and my gaze remains fixed on him. A smile crosses my features at the sight of his peaceful, sleeping face. His little cheeks and nose make me want to pull him closer and closer.
"And how did you find the process of naming your children? Was it tedious at all or did you enjoy the process?" He continues with a calm yet curious tone.
"The process was rather..."
8-hours ago...
"How do you think Vante would like them?" I question, staring into nowhere as the names ring in my mind.
Carmela and Romeo Riccardo don't sound all that bad. And I'm sure Vante would want them having his surname, I think it was part of the contract...
"Like what?" Vante strolls in, holding his phone to his ear as his hand rests on his hip. He's changed into a new suit and the crisp white sleeves of his dress shirt are rolled up to expose his forearms. Habitually.
Vante's eyes pierce into mine as he holds the phone up. At first, his gaze is sharp but it calms as he sighs, taking the phone away from his ear and setting it into his pocket.
"Uh..." is all I can manage out. My throat's gone bone dry for some reason and my lip finds it's way between my teeth. "N-name-names...for the babies."
I clear out my throat as a stiff silence falls over the room.
"I'm gonna get going, loves. Good luck, you two!" Sofia bids us hurriedly as she takes her leave, not taking a moment to pause as she runs in her heels.
Her shoes echo out through the hallway as the distance grows and the silence only gets louder.
Vante brings his hands together, making his way to the bed, taking a seat on the edge. He trails one of his hands along my leg over the blanket. "Well...have you decided on any names..?"
Vante's voice is laced with caution. He's so being so delicate, speaking so softly. But then his eyes widen in a slight panic.
"Not that you have to do it...alone..." he adds, claiming as eat word leaves his lips.
