Chapter 11 - It's Going Alright

3 days had gone by since Marjorie had tried to "support" her staff, to the extent which she thought was needed. Everything was going so smoothly at the moment, Marjorie and Maeve had patched up their situation briefly after their argument, Mia was now working again in the Nursery: after Maeve had begged her to come back. Autumn and Winter were now expecting a baby, Marjorie and Reece were now engaged.

Everything was going so well!

The morning had run so easily, Reece had dropped Marjorie off with her morning coffee. It was such a decent day today as well, not too hot but not cold either. Autumn was now in a better mood thanks to pregnancy, which was lucky for parents who'd push her buttons.

"How you doing my love?" Marjorie again tries to strike a conversation with a pregnant Autumn.
Autumn looks up, cracking a smile, "I'm fine thank you Marjorie.... Do, do you have any snacks? I've ran out of mine" she adds on leaning back in her chair. "Yeah hang on my love." She responds, bending down to reach her drawers.
——————— 20 minutes later ——————
"So I called Reece last night...he said you were upset" Autumn had half asked with her mouth full of a twix. Marjorie softly stared at her partner, "I just still feel a bit bad about not being there for you all, I think Maeve's hiding something more too.." Marjorie confesses.

Autumn chews her chocolate and sits back looking at Marjorie again, "Reece told me he wanted to talk to Maeve."

Marjorie's POV:
I had asked Reece this morning if he could talk to Maeve, I knew there was something wrong.. she wouldn't answer any of my questions.
What really happened with Nick is what I wondered for so long.

I knew that she wouldn't talk to me about that short of stuff, even though we had made up a part of me felt like she couldn't fully trust me yet.

"I asked Reece to. Maeve wouldn't budge so it would have to be him" I just say blankly, still trying to figure out what I wanted to know.
"Why ask Reece? He hasn't talked to Maeve for years." Autumn looks over to me. I could see the confusion run over her face,
I can't lie when I was first thinking, I thought who would be able to squeeze information from Maeve I had thought Charlotte, but it seemed unfair to her: Charlotte had been through a separation. "As I said Maeve wouldn't open up to me like that Autumn." I repeat again.

My chest began to tighten, why of all times this?
I guess I could say I was scared of what would come out of my sister's mouth. What if there was something seriously wrong with her?
What if Nick had Been hurting Maeve?
What if something happened and broke them?
'What if...' is all that ran through my head at that moment. My chest felt heavy, my eyes felt heavy.

I just felt so so heavy, at that point.
I had never felt so vulnerable.
I couldn't breathe...

"Marjorie! Marjorie! Marjorie!" Autumn calls out and Marjorie flinches at the calls.

"Huh?what did you want Autumn?" Marjorie finally responds rubbing her head. "Reece wants you to tell Maeve that he wants to see her now, so are you gonna...?" Autumn continued as she stood now infront of the older woman.

"Can...can you do it? I need to think about something. And you have a good relationship with Maeve." Marjorie looks away from Autumn and just puts her head in her hands.

Like other times, silence filled the room.
"Yeah...I can do that." Autumn nodded as she got up.., patted Marjorie on the back and left the room to go and find Maeve in her office.
As Autumn left the office, she slowly looked over her right shoulder, looking back at the older woman sobbing into her arms. She paused for a moment trying to figure out what to do. Although Autumn wasn't merely an emotional person, she quickly walked back to Marjorie and wrapped her arms around her comforting her.

In that moment, Marjorie knew that she was going to be alright and comforted.

Autumn gave her head one last kiss before turning back and going to Maeve's Office. Giving a light knock Autumn knocks the door, "Maeve Can I speak to you?

Maeve's POV:
As I'm just tidying my office and sorting through my drawers I come across an old photo I had wanted to put up of me, Autumn, Char and Mia.
When I hear Autumn knock at my door I shout, "come in Autumn!!" And she appears from behind the door. I will admit I'm a bit jealous that the pregnancy glow has hit her so early, she looks so pretty.

"What can I do for you Autumn?" I say sorting my somewhat already cluttered desk drawers.
She looks over at me before continuing, "Well I wanted to let you know-" she says before the old photo catching her attention. As she keeps her gaze fixed on the photo, she slowly walks up to my desk and grabs it, "You still have it?.. look how younger we were." She smiles softly at me. We'd been such a tight fit group since we were little, I couldn't believe how far they'd come.

"So what can I do for you Autumn?" I look over at her and I can see her still holding that photo. It's such a cute memory of us too. "Well, Reece would like to talk to you, in his office at the sister nursery" Autumn says eyes still fixed on the photo again. "Oh have I done something wrong?" I add. "Nono he just wants to talk to you, I honestly don't know what it's about though" she smiles. I nod and go over to Reece's nursery.
————— At The sister Nursery —————-
Maeve arrives at the nursery and walks into Reece's office, "Hey Reece, Autumn said you wanted to talk to me?" Maeve adds shutting the door behind her and takes a seat.

"Oh yeah." He starts to discuss some normal admin things and issues when he gets to next part. "Well I talked to Marjorie... and she's quite worried about you so I wanted to know..." "No I appreciate the concern but I don't need any help" Maeve says as she calmly gets out of her chair and leaves the office.

"Fuck" Reece swears to himself as he thinks for a moment and gets out his phone, texting Autumn:
Reece: hey lil sis I wasn't able to get through to Maeve, so I was wondering if you could give it a try? You have a better relationship with her than me. Please..
Autumn: Okay but what was the conversation even about?
Reece: Marjorie was concerned about Maeve being true about her reason for breaking up with Nick, she doesn't know what it is though.
Reece: Do you know already?
Autumn: Yes. Yes I do

Autumn goes offline and walks into Maeve's office. No words were spoke as Autumn had known a bit about her situation already and sat next to her and held her close, soft sobs escape Maeve as she nuzzles closer to Autumn.
Again although Autumn is not an affectionate person, Winter and Maeve are her only exceptions as obviously winter is her partner and Maeve and Autumn had practically grown up together, dealing with similar situations.

From that moment, Maeve felt that she could also be safe in Autumn's arms and felt calmed.
