Chapter 48 - Young girls shouldn't know

A/N - This is a continuation from the last chapter, Will be sort of graphic in the explanation of why she did it. There will be a time jump of about 2 weeks in the middle of the chapter.

Recap:
As the ambulance reached the hospital, Mia hopped out of the ambulance and never left Maeve's side, when Maeve went into surgery to get her stomach flushed and assess further damage Mia couldn't sit still. She paced back and forth Maeve's room as she waited.

She was in the middle of pacing when she heard the door open. Thinking it was the doctors she whipped her head up to reveal Autumn, Winter and Charlotte. She ran and pressed into Charlotte as she sobbed and sobbed. The immense guilt was pressing on them both as they held each other tightly, sitting in the chair, same as others.

"We didn't know what you wanted.., but all the other nursery staff are here, they're in the waiting room outside.. they didn't want you to be alone" Autumn half smiled, as they waited hours for news. The silence was uncomfortable.

They were still waiting for the news of Maeve, Charlotte and Mia were pressed against each sobs being muffled as they fell asleep. Autumn was leaning against winter, her mind couldn't stop when she was in the waiting room.

Her mind just filled with doubt and sadness, twinges of hope when she recalled seeing Maeve collapsed on the kitchen floor, her lips going blue as she convulsed in Autumn's arms. "My sweet.. It's not your fault..." Winter half smiled looking at her as she paced. The sterile environment suddenly become too much for Autumn, looking at winter she gasped as she looked at him, "I-I can't... I need to get some air... stay here with them..." she sniffles and ran out and slumped at the front of the building - clutching her knees close to her chest. Barely able to breathe.

Both Charlotte and Mia woke from Autumn's frantic breathing and looked across to Winter, "where's Autumn?." Mia asks and looks at them all, "She needed to get some air... I think seeing maeve like that... brought up some past things.." Winter explained and he texted Reece to tell him where she went.

As Autumn ran, she ran past them all in the waiting area.. nothing more she wanted was to get air. Seeing Maeve when she was 15 the same way she found her then.... She called autumn both times.... She could have saved her and she did but what if she wasn't there in time?  She was so wrapped up in her own thoughts she never realised Reece had sat next to her and brought her in for a hug. "It's okay aut...let it out.." Reece mumbles and soothed her back, "she's strong... and you found her.. you saved her" Reece softly smiled and looked at his little sister.

"It just brought up bad memories... the day I found her after she called me when she was 15..." Autumn trails off snuggling closer to her brother, "I know... but you were able to help. It says something that she reached out for you" Reece kissed her forehead and stood up.

"How about we go back inside... I bet she's waiting to see you" Reece smiled and walked back in with Autumn to the others.

As they walked back into the hospital, Autumn and Reece see Mia and Charlotte standing talking to the doctors and the others looking at them from a distance, respectful of their privacy.

"What's going on?" Autumn asks and looks over to Winter, "They had a slight mishap in the surgery. They are just asking if it's okay to do a procedure, just to stabilise her" he finishes and sees Autumn's eyes go wide, "...mishap?.." she slowly says looking over to Mia who is partly flailing her arms around.
