From a glance, I could tell that something terrible had happened.
The moment I stepped into the lobby, the atmosphere inside the building was cold and tense. No demeanour could be seen other than the security guard at the entrance who had welcomed me in with a smile. The elevator ride also was silent since I was the only one inside and the second floor where the meeting was held felt so eerie when I jumped in the corridor.
It almost felt like an apocalypse.
It made me wonder about what had happened. Why did Sangyeon need everyone to present? Were the other writers also summoned?
The curiosity got the best of me but earlier when I asked Rosie what it was about through the phone, she simply told me 'It's better if you come first.' So, it wouldn't be weird if I said, I was running all the way here.
The meeting room was at the end of this corridor - probably 50m away from my current position, however, despite that, I could hear yelling from inside there - though faint. And if my hunch was correct, the furious voice belonged to the boss - Lee Sangyeon.
"What had they done to have him yell like that?" I questioned myself, slightly taken aback by this unexpected situation. For them - the staff, this was normal because Sangyeon was a strict boss when it came to a wrong decision made. He tended to fix it immediately.
However, this was quite rare for me to see. I had never seen him getting so angry to the extent he would yell.
Before I knew it, I had rushed to the meeting room, ready to barge in when I held the knob. But, the conversation inside somehow had stopped me from putting effort into my hand to swing the door open.
"Everyone is pressing!" It sounded like Haknyeon's voice. "What should we do? We can't keep them hanging... They need updates."
What updates?
"I think we can delay..." And that sounded like Joochan. "I think there are some misunderstandings or misinformation."
What on Earth are they talking about?
At that moment I decided to kill my curiosity and twist the knob I held for quite some time, Sangyeon was yelling "Get Ivy here, now!"
And when I stood at the threshold, something flew towards me which made me slightly flinch. The thud sound was loud, making me look down at my feet catching a glimpse of the thing thrown. For the first time since I started my career as a writer under this publisher, I was offended seeing my book, my struggle - which I treated with care like a fragile just born baby, was on the floor like an unwanted trash. Disappointment crept into my heart like blood flowing down my veins, knowing that it was Sangyeon who did it.
Out of all people, it was him who threw it off.
"Ivy..." Rosie strode closer to me and my eyes still couldn't leave the sight of the book on the floor until I felt her cold hand holding mine. "Let's have a sit first."
"I don't think Sangyeon wants me here for too long," unfazed, I shifted my gaze to the boss in the tucked-in white shirt, looking distressed. "Say it... I will make myself disappear as soon as possible if that will relieve your hatred of me."
Perhaps my speech had sent everyone crazy. Ivy is going against Sangyeon, what a good headline to start a gossip. From the corner of my eyes that hadn't left the boss, I saw Haknyeon awkwardly glancing around and Joochan rose on his feet calling my name ever so softly in an attempt to calm me down.
Sangyeon on the other side huffed before he rolled his sleeves up to the elbows - something he did that would drive any girl crazy yet right now I was resenting him way too much, his action made me want to throw up.
