KEIFER

The blissful days had passed like swirl of a whirlwind here in Los Angeles, California. It has been three weeks since I left the Philippines.

Tito Kris enrolled me in a prestigious univerisity here in LA. Mendeleev Academy is a well-known university here in California for producing engineering professionals. My heart always holds a special place for children.

I also got my license in my first two weeks here and, of course, underwent a long process of driving lessons before I could drive a car. He has two cars in the garage, and the other one is much more luxurious than the Honda Civic. This place is nothing less than a mansion, with a huge terrace and numerous rooms. The kitchen is fully equipped with all the essentials, and the refrigerator is double-door too! The mansion has a balcony upstairs with a leisure room. It's like living in a dream, not to mention that we have a pool in the front yard and a small greenhouse garden just meters away. I never thought I would experience this kind of thing in my life.

In my first three weeks, I needed to attend an online class about english enhancement. Since it was connected to my program at school, I didn't hesitate to agree with Tito Kris about it. Every night, at exactly 7 PM to 8 PM the english class would begin. It helped me a lot in expanding my vocabulary. Alam kong hindi ako ganoon ka-confident sa aking english speaking skills lalo na noong nasa Pilipinas pa ako, but since this is the native language here, I might as well learn it to avoid language barriers.

I need to go to school from Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 4 PM. I attend the online English class from 7 PM to 8 PM, then driving school every Saturday and Sunday. That's how my three weeks went in this place.

People here are welcoming. I actually felt at home because of our neighbors' warm welcome, and they are really tall. Para akong nakikisalamuha sa mga poste rito. I am just 5'7" tall while most of them here are 6 feet or taller.

Since I was a transfer student at Mendeleev Academy, I really needed to adjust to the new environment and culture. I met bullies at school, which is not new to me. Mabuti na lang ay meron pa ring nagtatanggol sa akin sa katauhan nina Therese and Timothy, my new friends. Good thing we also live in the same town here in Downtown Los Angeles. They defended me a lot of times at school. I'm so glad these two accepted me for who I am. No buts, no questions asked. I just feel loved by them. Therese is a Filipino-American based in the USA. She knows how to speak a bit of Tagalog, while Timothy is a native American citizen. Nasabi ko na bang mag-jowa sila? Yes, they are in a relationship. My favorite lovebirds of all time. They just remind me of us. . . of him.

I wake up every day at 6 AM just to call her. 6 AM here is 10 PM in the Philippines.

It might look like a very hectic schedule for everyone, but for me, it's just a normal daily routine.
