"Look, Shuichi, I just... I don't know."

Shuichi frowned, carefully pushing the crayons scattered on the bed aside into a neat pile. He could tell Kaito was apprehensive.

Shuichi had been trying to help Kaito age regress for the first time. They'd been trying to find a way for him to healthily cope with his problems. Recently, he'd been lashing out at his classmates more frequently. Or— if he was upset about something— he'd just shut himself off and binge watch Danganronpa.

Honestly, Shuichi would be a hypocrite if he said he also didn't do the latter. But it'd been affecting Kaito lately, and he wanted to help him.

So, when he didn't shy away from the idea of age regression, Shuichi decided it couldn't hurt.

Well, it definitely couldn't hurt, but that didn't mean it would work.

Shuichi expected it to be awkward initially, but the whole time he had tried to help him feel small, offering him various regression items or speaking to him in a softer voice, Kaito just looked... tense?

"W-We don't have to do this, you know," Shuichi said gently, "I don't want to make you uncomfortable..."

Kaito sighed, shaking his head.

"Look, it's not that, it's just..." Kaito furrowed his eyebrows, "I'm not sure I even know how to regress. Like... when I was a kid, I didn't color. I didn't have stuffed animals or anything."

He tugged on his sleeves before he spoke again.

"Maybe I'm just not cut out for this. I don't even know what I did as a kid that was... kiddish, I guess," Kaito admitted, though he had an edge to his voice, "Thanks for trying anyways, Shuichi."

Shuichi softened. Ah... that made sense. No one regressor was going to be the same. If these things weren't working for Kaito, then maybe they could find something that could?

"Your regression doesn't have to look like everyone else's, you know," Shuichi murmured, "Even if it's not... conventionally childlike, I guess, is there anything you did as a kid that brings back fond memories?"

Kaito thought for a moment.

"I don't know. I was watching Danganronpa by the time I could spell my name, and I don't think that's something you should watch age regressed..." He muttered, "Uh, I mean, I really liked space. I watched those space documentaries over and over again as a kid."

Shuichi hummed in acknowledgment, nodding for him to continue.

"And... I guess I played outside a lot?" Kaito offered sheepishly after some time, "I don't know. It feels like I never had much of a childhood, so I'm not too sure how to recreate it."

Shuichi understood that. Danganronpa had really risen in popularity for the last few years, causing lots of younger children to be exposed to it. That didn't mean it was any less harmful to those audiences, though.

And still, the two watched it. It was a sick kind of interest; watching the participants fight for their lives. But anyhow, that wasn't the focus!

"Well, let's start by doing the smaller things," Shuichi smiled softly, "You told me you liked apple juice as a kid, right? I can bring you some of that and then put on a space documentary."
