———————————————————————————

Kirumi always liked the rain. It was a nice background noise when she did her chores, the pattering against the window a pleasant sound to hear as she swept the floor or cooked a meal.

She'd hum softly while wiping down the windows, the lightning and thunder outside strangely comforting to her. She'd never hated the rain.

...Except for when she found herself caught up in it, on a particularly stressful and busy day.

It was pouring heavily this evening. One of her clients took their garden very seriously, and did not want their plants or flowers to be damaged. Therefore, she was tasked with covering the plants, protecting them from the heavy rain and wind.

So, unable to say no to any request, Kirumi opened the front door, the wind whipping at her face as rain already began to soak her hair and her clothes.

The fabric of her dress clung to her skin, leaving her to wince, experiencing an unusual discomfort from it. She had been rather out of it lately, finding herself bored with her chores and staring off into space when she had a rare break.

She truthfully wanted nothing more than to go to sleep, preferrably with a warm drink and a soft blanket. Maybe even after reading herself one of those fairy-tales...—

Kirumi shook her head, immediately snapping herself out of it. That was a hindrance to her duties. Right now, she had a task at hand, and she needed to do it well. Regression would only complicate her work.

She pushed through the rain, walking towards the garden and taking a large piece of fabric. She pinned it against the fence, successfully covering the plants. She repeated the process a few times before the garden was entirely protected.

At that point, Kirumi was entirely soaked. Her hair was wet, falling into her face as raindrops dripped down her cheeks. Her clothes were uncomfortably soaked, causing her to shiver. Even her gloves stuck tightly to her hands, her fingers, and she was suddenly extremely uncomfortable.

She turned back immediately, hurrying herself back inside. She clicked open the door, trying to think.

She still needed to cook dinner, as well as tidy up the bathroom. In that case, she could wash up and change in the restroom, then she could resume her work, and after that she could easily cook but then she remembered she needed to sort the books in the library and—

"Ah, Kirumi!"

Her mind was so foggy that she barely registered someone had spoken to her initially. She blinked, and once her eyes focused, she noticed Kiibo walking up to her. A look of concern was plastered onto his expression.

"You're soaked. Did you get out in the rain?" He tilted his head.

Kirumi straightened, clearing her throat and folding her hands in front of her properly.

"I did have to complete a task," She said, trying to ignore the shakiness in her voice, "But I am perfectly fine. I appreciate your concern."

He furrowed his eyebrows.

"You've been working all day..." He said thoughtfully, "You should take a break. You look exhausted."

She winced. Was it really that obvious?
