Int. Tokyo Metropolitan Hiroo Hospital – Later

Ryuji is sitting in a hospital room in a chair, next to his mother, who is laying in a hospital bed, the gash on her head covered in bandages. Ryuji's right knee is shaking, rapidly and won't stop, no matter how much he wishes it would. Ryuji's mother begins groaning, causing Ryuji's right knee is, finally, stop shaking. Ryuji's mother's eyes, slowly, open. Ryuji gets out of his chair to check on his mother.

Ryuji Sakamoto: Mom! You're awake!

Ryuji doesn't hesitate to wrap his arms around his mother to hug her, catching her off guard. Ryuji's mother becomes more and more cognizant of her surroundings, before speaking.

Ryuji's Mother: A-am I in a hospital? How...did I get here?

Ryuji releases the hug, that he's giving his mom.

Ryuji Sakamoto: Mom, you fell and there was a huge gash in your head...and...and...I didn't know what else to do so I called 119...I tried to stop the bleeding on my own but I, probably, did a shitty job...I'm sorry!

Ryuji's Mother: R-Ryuji, s-slow down! Everything is alright, now. I...just need a second to understand what's happening, right now, that's all. I...was in a fall?

Ryuji Sakamoto: Yeah, do you remember what happened, before you fell?

Ryuji's mother shakes her head, no.

Ryuji's Mother: I went to the kitchen to get something to snack on and...that's weird. I can't remember anything, after that. I don't even think I ended up getting anything to eat. Ow!

Ryuji's mother holds the area of her head that is wrapped in bandages.

Ryuji Sakamoto: Hey, mom, don't push yourself, too hard, alright? I'm just so happy that you're awake, right now. Just...stay here, okay? I'll leave and go get the doctor. I'm sure that he'll be able to tell us more about why you fell. Just...take it easy. I'll be right back!

Ryuji makes his way towards the door to his mother's hospital room but pauses, for a second.

Ryuji Sakamoto: Oh, and mom, I love you! I'm sorry that I don't say that, often enough.

Ryuji opens the door to his mother's hospital room and leaves to go get a doctor or nurse. Ryuji's mother is still holding the area of her head, that's wrapped in bandages, in discomfort.

Int. Tokyo Metropolitan Hiroo Hospital - Day

The date is Friday, August 13th and Ryuji has fallen asleep, in the chair, next to his mother's hospital bed. His mother glances at him and smiles. A sharp pain in in hear causes her smile to disappear. She holds the bandaged area of her head in discomfort and she begins to recall the what the doctor said about what caused her fall, when he came to check on her, the previous night.

Doctor (V.O.): Well, it's safe to the say the main cause of your fall is stress, Ms. Sakamoto. Have you been feeling more stressed, as of late? If someone is under too much stress, sometimes the body, simply, can't take it, anymore. I believe that's what led to your fall. I would try hard to keep stress low, from now on. You were quite lucky that you ended up surviving this fall, considering you landed, head-first, onto hard floor. Once you're discharged, I'm going to have you take a brain MRI at a different hospital, just to make sure you haven't suffered any serious injuries, in regards to your brain. If you notice any strange symptoms, other than normal head pain in the injured site, please be sure to let us know, right away. Again, please do everything you can to keep your stress to a minimum. The last thing you want is to have another fall as bad as this one, Ms. Sakamoto. There's no telling what will happen if you have another fall, like this.
