**************Time skip to Saturday***********
Dylan's pov:
"hey mom" I said. She was sitting on the couch in the living room. It was just after 10 and I had just woken up. My mom got home last night, but I decided to wait until this morning to ask her about Valerie coming to my dads party Sunday. I figured she'd be in a better mood.
She looked up from her phone and smiled. Yep, better mood.
"hi, come sit." She said, patting the cushion next to her. I walked around the coffee table and sat down.
"sorry I didn't get a chance to talk to you last night." She said.
"That's okay. how was work?" I asked her.
I crossed my leg over my other knee and turned sideways on the couch to face my mom. I rested my arm on the top of the cushion and leaded on the palm of my hand.
She sighed and flashed me a light smile. "It was okay."
I always try to ask my mom about her day, but I also know not to ask too much. I don't think she really likes to talk about it.
I hummed and nodded my head, then I lifted my head up slightly.
"So I was wondering....about Sunday-" I started to say.
"Yes you have to be there." My mom quickly interrupted me.
I titled my head and narrowed my eyebrows. "Um that's not what I was gonna say."
She looked surprised. "Oh. Okay sorry."
I gave her a look before I continued.
"I was going to ask....... If Valerie could come."
My mom didn't say anything at first, and her expression didn't change. I wasn't sure what she was thinking.
"I just thought it would be easier..if I had someone there with me. I mean I know you'll obviously be there, but you'll probably go off and talk to people and...I don't know."
I leaned back down on the palm of my hand and I just looked up at her. It looked like she was going to say no.
But then she started nodding her head.
"I think that's a great idea." She said.
Well I wasn't expecting that response.
"She's a great friend, and as long as you actually engage with people...I think that should be okay."
"Yeah of course." I said, smiling at her. "Thanks."
My mom patted my leg and smiled back at me. I lifted my arm back off the couch and uncrossed my legs. I was about to get up when I remember I hadn't asked her about Olivia's party tonight.
"Oh and also....is it okay if I go to a friend's house tonight? she's having some people over. Shane, Kacey, and Valerie are going too."
"Hmm sure. Just make sure you're home at a reasonable hour. You have to help me cook and setup tomorrow." My mom said.
"Yeah no problem." I said, and I stood up from the couch.
I was about to walk away before she asked any more questions.
"Dylan wait." She suddenly said, making me stop. I turned back around to face her.
"Yes?" I asked.
"You're being responsible right?" She looked serious.
"What?" I tried to sound confused. I knew what she was trying to get at.
"I went to parties too when I was your age. I'm not saying you can't go, I just want to know you are your friends are being responsible, especially considering you-"
"Yes." I said interrupting her. I didn't want to hear it. "I promise I am. And this isn't really a big party. Just some friends."
"Okay, I trust you." She said and she went back to looking at her phone. I stood there for a second before I walked away, and headed up to my room.
I sat down on my bed and took my phone out. I had a bunch of texts from the group chat with my friends. We were all going to meet at Kacey's house beforehand.
I texted Valerie separately and told her my mom said yes to her coming to my dad's party.
I was honestly terrified about having to face my dad's closest friends. I had a terrible feeling in my stomach, and I couldn't shake it. But it made me feel a whole lot better that V would be there. I wouldn't have to be scared and alone.
I knew I'd be up late so I decided to start cranking out my homework. This weekend is gonna be absolutely insane.
