Nikol barely had time to process the nurse's words before the heavy double doors at the end of the hallway swung open. The sound of polished shoes hitting the cold tiles echoed ominously, drawing Nikol's gaze. His heart nearly stopped when he saw who had entered.
Standing there, like two specters from the past, were his father and Aari's father. The shock on Nikol's face was evident as he struggled to understand how they had found out, how they were here. But the answer came almost immediately as he caught sight of Theo, standing off to the side, a wicked smirk playing on his lips.

"Surprised, brother?" Theo's voice was a quiet taunt, barely containing his glee. "I thought it was about time our fathers got involved, don't you?"
Aari's father, a tall, imposing man with a stern expression, didn't waste a second. His focus was entirely on his daughter, lying unconscious in the hospital bed. His anger was palpable as he stormed over to her, his eyes narrowing as he took in her pale face and bandaged body.
"What the hell happened to her?" he demanded, his voice shaking with fury. He turned his gaze on Nikol, who was still sitting beside Aari, his hand gripping hers protectively. "And why are you here?"
Theo's chuckle cut through the tension. "Because he thinks he's her savior, of course. Isn't that right, Nikol?"
Nikol stood up, his body tense, his voice steady despite the fear coursing through him. "I'm here because I love her. She's my fiancée—"
"Fiancée?" Aari's father interrupted, his voice a dangerous growl. "She's my daughter. And I decide what's best for her." With a swift motion, he pulled out a gun, pressing it against Nikol's temple. The cold steel bit into Nikol's skin, and for a moment, the room was deathly silent.
Nikol's heart pounded in his chest, but he didn't move. He met Aari's father's gaze with defiance. "I won't let you take her."
Before anything more could happen, Nikol's father stepped forward, his presence commanding the room. "Lower the gun," he said firmly, placing a hand on Aari's father's arm. "We can discuss this without violence."
Aari's father hesitated, his gaze flicking to Theo, who was still watching the scene with amusement. Finally, he lowered the gun, but his grip on Aari remained firm.
"This isn't over," Aari's father spat at Nikol, dragging his daughter out of the room. Nikol tried to follow, but Theo's mocking laughter stopped him in his tracks.
"See, Nikol?" Theo sneered, his voice dripping with satisfaction. "You're nothing. Not to her, not to anyone. You're just a convenient placeholder until someone stronger comes along."
Nikol's fists clenched, his anger boiling over. But before he could react, his father grabbed his arm, pulling him back. "Enough," his father said sternly. "We're going home."
Theo's grin widened as he followed them out of the hospital, his eyes gleaming with dark satisfaction.

The Russo Mansion
Later: The Brothers' Confrontation
Back at the family estate, the tension between Nikol and Theo was palpable. Their father had left them alone in the study, a glass of whiskey in his hand as he retreated to his office. The silence was suffocating, broken only by the crackle of the fireplace.
Nikol couldn't hold it in any longer. "You did this," he accused, his voice trembling with rage. "You called them. You brought them here."
Theo leaned casually against the wall, swirling his drink with a smug smile. "Of course I did. Someone had to clean up your mess."
Nikol's eyes flashed with fury. "This isn't a game, Theo. Aari almost died. And you—you just stood there, laughing."
Theo shrugged, unfazed. "She's not dead, is she? So what's the problem?"
"The problem," Nikol seethed, "is that you don't care about anyone but yourself. You'd destroy everything around you just to feel powerful."
Theo took a slow sip of his drink, savoring the taste. "Power is everything, brother. You know that. And you know what else? You're just mad because, deep down, you know I'm right. Aari will always be mine, no matter how hard you try to play the hero."
Nikol lunged at Theo, grabbing him by the collar. "I'm done with your games, Theo. Stay away from Aari."
Theo's expression didn't change. If anything, he looked bored. "Or what? You'll hit me again? You should know by now, Nikol—violence doesn't solve anything. It's strategy. And right now, you're losing."
Nikol shoved him away, disgusted. "You're sick."
Theo chuckled, adjusting his collar as if nothing had happened. "Maybe. But at least I'm winning."
Their father's voice interrupted the tension, calm but authoritative as he entered the room. "Enough, both of you. This isn't the time for petty squabbles. We have more important things to deal with."
Nikol glared at Theo one last time before turning to their father. "What now?"
Their father sighed, looking between his two sons with a mixture of disappointment and resolve. "Now, we regroup. This isn't over. Not by a long shot." His gaze lingered on Theo, who met it with a defiant smirk.
As their father left the room, Nikol was left with the bitter realization that, despite everything, the war between him and Theo was far from finished. And Aari was still caught in the middle of it all.
