Aari sat on the edge of the bed, watching the door where Theo had stormed out. Her heart felt like it had been ripped from her chest, the pain almost unbearable. She knew she had made the right decision, but the weight of it was suffocating. Gathering the remnants of her courage, she stood up, wiped her tears, and began to pack her things. She needed to go home.

As she entered her apartment, her sister Maya was there to greet her. Maya's eyes widened with concern, but she held back her questions, sensing Aari's fragile state. Aari appreciated the unspoken understanding and gave her sister a weak smile before retreating to her room. She needed time to process everything that had happened.

The hours passed in a blur. The sun set, casting long shadows across her room. Just as she was about to drift off into a restless sleep. Seb arrived at Aari's apartment, his expression filled with concern as he stepped inside. He immediately noticed the traces of her distress—the puffy eyes, the drawn face. He approached her cautiously, his voice gentle but probing. "Aari, what's going on? I've been worried sick."

Aari felt a surge of anger toward Seb, an intense flash that quickly faded into exhaustion. She had been through too much to sustain her fury, but she knew she had to confront him about his interference. She took a deep breath and began to explain everything in a halting, broken voice—the intense relationship with Theo, the explosive fights, and the unbearable decision to end things.

Seb listened, his brow furrowing deeper with every word. When she finished, there was a heavy silence between them.

"Aari," Seb began, his tone careful, "I only called because I was worried. You were with Theo, and I know how he can get. I just wanted to make sure you were safe."

Aari's eyes flashed with a mix of pain and anger. "Seb, you shouldn't have done that. Your calls only made things worse. Theo saw your name, and it just fueled his anger. It made everything so much harder."

Seb's expression hardened. "So, what are you saying, Aari? That I should have just stayed out of it and let him hurt you?"

Aari shook her head, her voice trembling. "No, that's not what I'm saying. But I needed space to handle things on my own. I needed to know that I could deal with it without always having to rely on you."

Seb clenched his fists, his frustration evident. "And what if you couldn't? What if something had happened to you? I couldn't just stand by and do nothing."

"But your protection feels suffocating, Seb!" Aari's voice rose, the pent-up emotions spilling out. "I love that you care, but sometimes it feels like you don't trust me to take care of myself. I needed to make my own choices, even if they were mistakes."

Seb took a step back, his face a mask of hurt and confusion. "So, you're saying this is my fault? That I'm the reason things got worse with Theo?"

Aari's eyes filled with tears. "I'm not blaming you, Seb. I know you were trying to help, but sometimes, your help feels more like control. I needed space to breathe, to figure things out on my own."

Seb looked away, his jaw tight. "I get it, Aari. But I was scared for you. I couldn't just do nothing."

"And I appreciate that," Aari said, her voice softening. "But we need to find a balance. I need to feel like I can handle my life without being smothered."

Seb sighed, running a hand through his hair. "You're right. I'm sorry, Aari. I didn't mean to make things harder for you."

Aari reached out and took his hand. "I know you didn't. Let's try to move forward, okay? Let's be there for each other without causing more pain."

Seb squeezed her hand, a small, reluctant smile forming. "Yeah, let's do that."

In the quiet of the evening, Aari felt a sense of peace. Though the road ahead would be challenging, she knew she had a friend who would stand by her side. And in that moment, it was enough.

Just as Aari started to feel a bit more grounded, her phone buzzed again. She glanced at the screen and saw Theo's name. Her heart sank, and she hesitated before answering, knowing she had to face him one last time.

"Theo," she answered, her voice barely a whisper.

"Aari," Theo's voice was cold, devoid of the warmth it usually held. "How are you?"

"I'm... I'm okay," she lied. "How's your hand?"

Theo's reply was icy. "It's fine. Nothing I can't handle."

The indifference in his voice pierced her heart. Aari felt a wave of sadness and regret wash over her. "Theo, I—" she started, but he cut her off.

"Take care of yourself, Aari. Goodbye."

The call ended abruptly. Aari's hand trembled as she placed the phone down. She felt the dam of her emotions break once more, and the tears flowed freely. Her body shook with the force of her sobs, and she buried her face in her hands, unable to contain the overwhelming sorrow.

Seb, seeing her distress, quickly moved to her side and enveloped her in his arms again. Aari clung to him, her body wracked with sobs. "I can't do this, Seb. It hurts too much," she cried, her voice muffled against his chest.

Seb held her tighter, his voice soothing and reassuring. "I'm here, Aari. I'm right here. Let it all out."

Aari's tears soaked his shirt, her cries filling the room. Her body felt like it was breaking apart, every breath a struggle. She couldn't stop the flood of emotions—the heartbreak, the regret, the overwhelming sense of loss. It all came crashing down on her, and she felt like she was drowning.

Seb kissed the top of her head, whispering comforting words as he gently rocked her back and forth. "It's going to be okay. You're stronger than you think. We'll get through this together."

Aari didn't know how long she cried, but eventually, her sobs subsided, leaving her feeling drained and empty. Seb continued to hold her, his presence a steady anchor in the storm of her emotions. She knew she had a long road ahead, but with Seb's support, she believed she could find the strength to move forward.

As the night passed, Aari found a fragile sense of peace in her room, clutching her stuffed bunny close. The softness of its familiar form offered some comfort amidst the turmoil of emotions. Though healing would undoubtedly take time, she felt a glimmer of hope knowing she wasn't facing her challenges alone. With resolve, she confronted the uncertainty of the days ahead, finding solace in the upcoming vacation with Seb in Dubai—a journey she hoped would bring clarity and renewal.

In the quiet of the morning, Aari steeled herself for what lay ahead, her fingers trembling slightly as she typed the message that would shape their future. "I need some time. Let's meet in Dubai in a week. – Aari." With each keystroke, she felt the weight of her decision, the uncertainty hanging heavy in the air around her. Closing her eyes briefly, she took a deep breath, preparing herself mentally and emotionally for the challenges and revelations that awaited her on the horizon.
