"HI." DELORES GREETED plainly, after opening the door to reveal Five.
He was wearing a suit like always. The déjà vu that corrupted her mind made her sick at the sight of the suit, knowing she had seen him in it even before she had met him— in this timeline.
"Happy birthday." Five said, and Delores leaned on the doorframe, and let out a halfhearted laugh.
"Yeah, thanks." she shrugged, her head pounded with a familiar pain as she eyed his face— his hands in his pockets.
Five eyed her for a moment, "Ready?" he asked, his breath visible due to the cold air outside.
He didn't like her shirt.
It was one of the first things he had noticed about her when he first saw her. It was the same shirt that his Delores wore.
The polka dots made his feel nostalgic— not in a good way.
Many people enjoy nostalgia, mainly because it brings them back to memories of their childhood. Five didn't have one of those. A childhood, that is.
Every memory that was stored in the back of his head was nothing but him being in fight or flight.
He was built to be some kind of broken hero, then was thrown into the apocalypse— he hated himself for being an angsty teenager and running away from home, but if he hadn't done that he wouldn't be alive right now.
He wouldn't be living and breathing. He wouldn't have met Phoenix, or gone to the Commission. He wouldn't be staring at Delores right now.
"Yeah." Delores replied nodding, "Just let me get my purse real quick." she pushed off the doorframe and nodded at him.
Five nodded back, and sighed— why the fuck was he here?
He should stay away. But how could he? How could he just turn away from this— this mystery girl who was a mystery in the past timeline?
How could he turn away from Delores? Of course, she wasn't the mannequin he fell in love with, but she was interesting. How could he turn away from this parallel of a mystery?
Everything about her— about this timeline was a mystery. How come he was named after a mannequin he loved? Coincidence, right?
