the next day went by quick, faye spent it hanging out, outside the walls with carl and when they returned rick informed them about a 'welcome party' deanna was hosting.faye found it stupid and inconsiderate. there were people spending their days surviving off of squirrels and bugs, running from dead people and dying from thirst while everyone here was having a 'party' she hated the idea to begin with but once carol held up a navy blue dress, she hated it even more.
"i'm not wearing that" faye raised her eyebrows, glancing at the dress. "you've worn jeans and jacket for the past few years i think you can sacrifice a few hours." carol tilted her head with a smile.
faye dramatically sighed, shutting her bedroom door and changing into the dress. it was nothing fancy or special but it was different to what she was used to.
20 minutes later, faye was now sat down amongst the other group members, each of them in their own conversations. carl, judith and rick still hadn't arrived meaning faye had nobody her own age to talk to, she looked around the room, the boredom apparent on her face.
when they finally arrived, faye's face lit up at baby judith, who reached for her. "hey, pretty." faye cooed at her as rick handed the baby over. faye gently bounced the baby on her hip, giving carl a small smile as she lead him to their group. the two teens got lost in a conversation about the most random things until carl got called over by his friend, ron.
faye watched him walk off to his friends, turning her attention back onto the baby that sat in her lap, silently eavesdropping."yeah, she's my girlfriend." carl looked back at faye. faye's eyes widened, they'd never had a conversation about labels. she didn't hate him calling her his girlfriend, it was just unexpected.
faye spent the rest of the 'party' with baby judith, stealing glances from carl from across the room which certainly didn't go unnoticed by michonne who sat next to her with a small smile on her face.
"i swear this is the quietest you've been since the day i met you." michonne teased, gently nudging her. faye chuckled lightly "nothing left to say." she shrugged.
〰️
the next few days went past like a blur, faye and carl spent each day together outside the walls and today was nothing different. faye sat beside the boy, her head leant on his shoulder as they read a comic together.
suddenly, the growls of walkers erupted from the woods. the two stood up quickly, spotting a small group of walkers, too many to take on by themselves. faye grabbed his hand, pulling him into a hollowed-out tree.
"it's their world. we're just living in it." faye whispered, glancing out at the incoming walkers. carl looked down at her, his eyes full of love and admiration.
"girlfriend, hm?" faye spoke up teasingly as they walked back to alexandria. "that's what you are? are you not?" he stopped walking, his face full of concern. "i'm messing, calm yourself." faye giggled.
when the two got back, they were met with an unexpected sight. rick sat ontop of ron's dad, both their faces bloody as if they'd just been fighting.
"damn it rick! i said stop." deanna exclaimed.
"or what?" rick pulled out a gun, aiming at deanna and everyone around her. "you gonna kick me out?"
"put that gun down, rick." deanna lowered her hands.
"you still don't get it. none of you do! we know what needs to be done and we do it. we're the ones who live. you, you just sit and plan and hesitate. you pretend like you know but you don't. you wish things weren't the way they are. well, you want to live? you want this place to stay standing? your way of doing things is over." rick rambled, glaring deanna down menacingly.
"things don't get better because you... you want them to. starting right now, we have to live in the real world. we have to control who lives here." he pointed to ron's dad, pete, who laid on the floor in pain.
"that's never been more clear to me than it is right now." deanna retorted bitterly.
"me? me? you.. you mean me?" he chuckled.
"your way is gonna destroy this place. it's gonna get people killed.. it's already gotten people killed. and i'm not gonna stand by and let it happen. if you don't fight, you die. i'm not gonna stand by and..." rick continued before michonne threw a hard punch at him, knocking him unconscious.
faye watched as glenn and michonne hoisted ricks arms over their shoulders, taking him to the infirmary. everyone stood around in shock, taking in everything that just happened. "he'll be fine. he always is." faye reassured carl, who never took his eyes away from his unconscious father.
around an hour later, the front door of the grimes' house swung open and rick walked in. carl rushed over to his dad quickly, wrapping his arms around his dad, relieved he was okay.
"look, i'm sorry." rick muttered into his hair. "i heard about the meeting.." carl began as he pulled away from his dad.
"you're staying home. you too faye, i imagine your dad wouldn't want you there." rick left no room for arguement.
daryl had been hired as a recruiter along with aaron, which faye hated because it meant she barely saw her dad most days and he was constantly risking his life. again.
faye didn't know much about what happened at the meeting that night, but from what she heard, rick killed ron's dad and the man faye had met awhile ago, now known as morgan had shown up at alexandria.
〰️
that was now a few days ago, everything went back to normal (ish). faye and carl were walking around alexandria with judith, faye pushed the stroller while carl rambled on about some comic.
"carl?" a familiar voice called out from behind them, it was gabriel. "what?" carl replied in a harsh tone.
a few days prior, gabriel lied to deanna about the group, telling her that they were dangerous and that she shouldn't trust them.
"you heard what i told deanna about your group." gabriel looked down in embarrassment.
"what do you want." he shot daggers at the priest with his eyes.
"it was about me, not you or your group. i know that now. i want to help. you tried to teach me back at my church.. but i'm ready to learn now." father gabriel explained.
"i think you need to tell everybody." carl huffed.
"yeah i think you're right." gabriel internally cringed at the thought of announcing to everyone that HE was the danger and shouldn't be trusted.
carl turned back around, looking over at faye for her opinion. faye gave her boyfriend a small shrug, she wasn't gabriel's biggest fan but he wanted to help out.
"come by around 3:00. we'll start with a machete." carl muttered before beginning to walk away.
